Por eso EEUU no tiene jurisdicción en la Descolonización de Puerto Rico / This is why Puerto Rico decolonization is not under US jurisdiction

En el 5 de marzo de 1998, Democracy Now reseñó que el Congreso de Estados Unidos (EEUU) había aprobado  un proyecto de ley para darle a los puertorriqueños el derecho a su autodeterminación.  Oprima el enlace arriba para leer este artículo de prensa.

¿Sabía usted que 38 años antes, en el 1960, la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) había ya determinado que toda colonia tiene el derecho a  su autodeterminación e independencia?  Eso fue a base del consenso de que el colonialismo es un crimen en contra de la humanidad, por su amenaza a la paz mundial.  Por eso es que el colonizador nunca tiene jurisdicción en el proceso de descolonización.  Al contrario, el proceso de descolonización, por razones obvia, siempre está bajo la jurisdicción de la ley internacional.  Además, la ley internacional le da a la colonia el derecho a usar todos los medios necesarios para lograr su liberación.  Por lo tanto, es el gobierno de Estados Unidos que comete el crimen, y no nuestro prisionero político de 33 años Oscar López Rivera.  ¿No cree Estados Unidos en la ley internacional?  La mayoría de los países que representa la ONU tiene que estar de acuerdo para hacer estas leyes internacionales.  ¿No cree Estados Unidos en la democracia?

Lo más increíble fue que la Cámara de Representantes aprobó ese proyecto de ley por solo un voto, después de haber tenido a Puerto Rico como su colonia por exactamente un siglo.  Casi la mitad de los representantes de la Camera no aceptó que el coloniaje es ilegal.  ¡Como ve, no ha cambiado mucho!

Este proyecto se trataba de celebrarse un plebiscito para que los puertorriqueños escojamos entre convertirnos en el estado 51 de Estados Unidos, ser una república independiente, o quedarnos como una colonia.  De nuevo, este proyecto estaba en violación a la ley internacional.  La solución de cometer el crimen de tener una colonia es simplemente darle a la colonia su soberanía completa.  Por eso es que en las 32 resoluciones, la ONU le ha pedido a EEUU que descolonice inmediatamente a Puerto Rico.  Después de 116 años de este crimen, obviamente, EEUU no lo quiere hacer. 

Por lo tanto, es muy importante que usted esté presente en estas Primera Protestas Oscar – Mandela en la Cuidad de Nueva York el 16 y 23 de junio de 2014.  A pesar de que todo el mundo dentro y afuera de Puerto Rico quiere que el Presidente Obama excarcele a Oscar, todavía no lo ha hecho.  Eso demuestra contundentemente  que el gobierno de Estados Unidos todavía quiere mantener a Puerto Rico como colonia.  ¡Necesitaremos, sin duda, un tsunami de gente en estas 2 protestas para poder persuadir a EEUU a cumplir con las 32 resoluciones de la ONU, porque los que practican el colonialismo no creen en la justicia de todos!

Did you know that 38 years earlier, in 1960, the United Nations (UN) had already determined that all colonies have the right to their self-determination?  This was based on the UN's consensus that colonialism is a crime against humanity, because of its threat to world peace.  For that reason, decolonization is never under the jurisdiction of the colonizer, but rather, it is under the jurisdiction of international law.  Furthermore, international law gives colonies the right to use whatever means necessary to obtain their independence.  So, it is the government of the United States that commits the crime, and not our Puerto Rican political prisoner of 33 years Oscar López Rivera.  Doesn't the US believe in international law?  A majority of the nations represented by the UN must agree before international laws are made.  Doesn't the US believe in democracy?

What is even more amazing is that this bill was approved by only one vote, after having had Puerto Rico as its colony for exactly a century!  About half of the US House of Representatives was still not convinced that colonialism is illegal.  As you can see, not much has changed!

This bill called for a plebiscite asking the People of Puerto Rico to choose between wanting to become a state of the United States, become an independent country, or remain a colony.  This is again contrary to international law.  The solution to the crime of having a colony, is to simply free the colony.  That's why the 32 UN resolutions have called for the US to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico by giving Puerto Rico all of her sovereignty.  It is obvious that after 116 years of US-PR colonialism, the US does not want to do that.

Therefore, it is so important for you to attend The First Oscar - Mandela Protests in New York City on June 16 and 23, 2014.  Despite the fact that almost everyone in and out of Puerto Rico wants President Obama to release Oscar from prison, he has not done so.  This is unquestionable evidence of how much the government of the US wants to continue having Puerto Rico as its colony.  We will undoubtedly need a tsunami of people at these 2 protests to persuade the US government to comply with the 32 UN resolutions, because those who practice colonialism don't believe in justice for all!
