Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at
the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. on March 31, 1968 about remaining
awake through a revolution. Click on the following link to watch that video: https://youtu.be/AFbt7cO30jQ
His
speech reminded me of the Puerto Rican Revolutionary Hymn that also talks about
people waking up and seeing what is happening around them. Click this link to

One of
the important themes that runs through all of Dr. King’s speeches is that of
doing what our conscious says is the right thing to do. That takes a lot of
courage! Doing that is what cost him his life! Four days after this speech, Dr.
King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee on April, 4, 1968.
Because
of King’s assassination, Elvis Presley, also called “The King”, decided to have
a song written specifically to end the television program that he did later
that year. Click on this link to watch the video of the song “If I Can
Dream”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-pP_dCenJA
Puerto
Ricans must unite to decolonize our homeland from 120 years of United States
colonialism, because it is the right thing to do. There is much danger in this
undertaking, but it is the only dignified thing that we could do as a People.
Why do you
think that today more Puerto Ricans live away from our national territory? The
only possible answer is that Puerto Rico has not been administered in the past 120 years for the
Puerto Ricans .
Colonies are
never administered for the colonists. That is why in 1776, the 13 American
colonies had to revolt against the English Empire. That was the revolution that
Rip Van Winkle had slept through, and mentioned in Dr. King’s speech.
Let’s all wake
up and unite to force the United States Government (USG) to comply with the
United Nations’ (UN) Charter that prohibits colonialism, and the 37 UN
resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the
Puerto Ricans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzBslJLbI0
We must,
because it is the right thing to do. We must because, those who believe that
only they have the right to a revolution don’t believe in LIBERTY AND JUSTICE
FOR ALL! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1697349163904877/
