The United States is outraged, and rightly so, over a professional basketball team owner’s racist comments about Black people.  There is universal consensus around the country that Donald Sterling’s comments are unacceptable, and that the Los Angeles Clippers owner needs to be punished to the full extent of the law.

While this story has the full attention of the United States news media, the fact that the United States (US) government has Puerto Rico as a colony for 116 years is virtually invisible.   Equally invisible is the fact that the US government has ignored 32 United Nations Resolutions asking the US to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  If racism is unacceptable to United States citizens, shouldn’t the fact that our own country has another country as her colony be even more unacceptable?  Isn’t enslaving an entire country an exaggerated form of racism?

If you believe that the United States government should immediately decolonize Puerto Rico, and release from prison our political prisoner of 33 years Oscar López  Rivera, please join us in our First Oscar – Mandela Protest in New York City.  It will be on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 8 AM to 5 PM outside the United Nations Building (the day after Fathers’ Day).

The United Nations is in its third decade trying to eradicate colonialism, because, like racism, it is a threat to world peace.  We need for you to be there too!

http://www.otropuertoricoesposible.org/2014/04/ser-independentista.html

La parada puertorriqueña de Nueva York honrará a nuestro preso político / New York’s Puerto Rican Parade will honor our political prisoner

¡Esperamos poderlo saludar!

This year's Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday, June 8, 2014 in New York City will honor Puerto Rico's political prisoner Oscar López Rivera.

Oscar has been in prison for almost 33 years for fighting for the decolonization of Puerto Rico.  International law gives people under colonialism the right to use whatever force necessary to free their country.  Therefore, the government of the United States is the one that commits a crime for maintaining Oscar in prison.

Join our protest outside the United Nations (UN) on Monday, June 16, 2014 - the day after Fathers’ Day.  We are calling it the First Oscar – Mandela Protest in New York City.  We will be protesting peacefully from 8 AM to 5 PM for freeing Oscar López Rivera from prison and for the cause that got him there, the immediate decolonization of Puerto Rico.

On the following Monday, June 23, the UN will be holding its annual hearing about Puerto Rico decolonization.  The UN has already issued 32 resolutions asking the United States (US) to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  Thus far, the US has ignored them!  That's why this protest is so important because, those who practice or accept colonialism don’t believe in justice for all.  We hope to see you all there soon!

The First Oscar – Mandela Protest in New York City

Now that the First Oscar – Mandela March in Puerto Rico is history, we can now begin to work on making an even bigger success of The First Oscar Mandela Protest in New York City.  This year’s Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City a week before our protest will be dedicated to our political prisoner Oscar López Rivera.

On Monday, June 23, 2014, the United Nations (UN) will be discussing again Puerto Rico’s colonial relationship with the United States.  The UN is in its third decade trying to eradicate colonialism from the world, because of the belief that it constitutes a threat to world peace.  We would like to help!

On the Monday before that, June 16, 2014, the day after Fathers’ Day, we will have a protest in the park across from the UN on 46th Street and First Avenue from 8 AM to 5 PM to show the world that we too believe that colonialism is a crime against humanity.  If the public is willing, we will have a second protest the following Monday on the very day the UN is discussing the decolonization of Puerto Rico.  We need to have as many people at the protest to make the government of the United States (US) comply with the 32 UN resolutions asking the US to decolonize immediately Puerto Rico.  After this many resolutions, it is obvious that the US does not want to do that.
President Obama recently showed the government of the United States’ hypocrisy about human rights.  In his memorial ceremony speech, he had only praise for Nelson Mandela.   He, however, has refused, despite the enormous pressure from Puerto Rico and the rest of the world, to release from prison Oscar López Rivera who is doing exactly what Mandela did.  Oscar has already spent 6 more years in prison than the 27 that Mandela served.  The US is happy when other countries decolonize their colonies, but the US wants to keep hers.  What kind of democracy is this?  Obviously, those who have colonies don’t believe in justice for all.
Please tell your friends about this important protest to free Oscar López Rivera, and to achieve what he has spent his life on, the decolonization of Puerto Rico.
We will have a sheet of paper so that whoever who wants to get involved in the planning of this yearly permanent event in New York City can provide us with your contact information.  If you wish, you can also email me right now at jlop28vislophis@yahoo.com.
We look forward to greeting old and new partners in our struggle to provide real justice for all!
