Why is Puerto Rico’s economy battered?

Click on the above link to read about why there is no opportunity in Puerto Rico for Puerto Ricans.

From the graph provided, you will notice that the biggest Puerto Rican exodus was in 1950.  Shortly after the United States government made Puerto Rico its colony it changed Puerto Rico's varied agriculture to one that exclusively produced sugar.  That was not for the benefit of Puerto Rico, but for the benefit of the US.

Then, the US government killed Puerto Rico agriculture entirely in 1947 through what was called, “Mano a la obra” to promote “Puerto Rico’s industrialization”.  Three years later, 470,000 Puerto Ricans left Puerto Rico in search of a better life.  My family was amongst them.   What is never mentioned in these news articles from the right media is the fact that the United States government has sole culpability for creating the chaos that exists today in Puerto Rico.  As a colony of the United States for the last 116 years, Puerto Rico watches helplessly as Puerto Rico is bled to death.

Puerto Rico is not a democracy.  The United States government fabricated that lie in 1952 to avoid having to report annually to the United Nations about its efforts to decolonize Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico will continue to get worse as the US government continues to further exploit her to force Puerto Ricans off their island.  Only after Puerto Ricans become a minority in Puerto Rico will statehood ever come for Puerto Rico.

This is why the US government has ignored 33 UN resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.   That is also why the US has refused to release from prison, Puerto Rican political prisoner Oscar Lopez Rivera despite the heavy world pressure to do so.  Keep in mind that international law gives colonized people the right to use all means necessary to decolonize their nation.  Therefore, it is the US government that is guilty of that crime, and not Oscar.

We invite all those who believe as the UN does that colonialism is a crime against humanity because it is a threat to world peace to peacefully protest at least 3 times a year until we decolonize Puerto Rico.

The first one will be a march in Puerto Rico to the US Courthouse on March 22 – The Abolition of Slavery Day.  The second one will be another march in Puerto Rico on the day before the UN hearing concerning the decolonization of Puerto Rico.  The third one will be a protest in New York City on the day that the UN has its annual hearing about the decolonization of Puerto Rico.  Of course, we will also support all demonstrations for the release of our Puerto Rican political prisoner Oscar López Rivera.

These protests are absolutely necessary, because 116 years of Puerto Rico colonialism means that the US government doesn't  believe in justice for all!

Puerto Ricans leaving from battered economy

http://grupocne.org/2014/01/08/puerto-ricans-flock-north-away-from-battered-economy/

Click on the above link to read an article about the large number of Puerto Ricans leaving Puerto Rico.

The question that is never addressed in this article is the reason for this disaster in Puerto Rico.  You will not see mentioned in this article that Puerto Rico is a colony of the United States (US) for the past 116 years.  You would think that that would be important to understand the mass exodus.

The United States has exploited and continues to exploit Puerto Rico.  This is why there is no opportunity in Puerto Rico for Puerto Ricans.  What the United States government wants is the island of Puerto Rico, because of its prime location in the world.  Pedro Albizu Campos said it this way.  The Americans want the cage, and not the birds.  Once Puerto Ricans make up less than 50% in Puerto Rico, then the United State will make Puerto Rico a state.  Until then, it will remain a US colony to continue to be exploited, until we all leave!

This is why the US government has ignored the 33 United Nations (UN) resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  It continue trying to divide Puerto Ricans by promoting the use of a plebiscite to "solve Puerto Rico's colonial status problem".  It is a problem that the US made without consulting the Puerto Ricans, but now US government feels that Puerto Ricans need to be consulted to reverse it.  The UN says that even if the Puerto Ricans don't want it, Puerto Rico must become an independent nation immediately.  Once she is an independent nation, she would be free to enter into whatever relationship she wants.

The US' supreme international crime

http://web.stanford.edu/group/progressive/cgi-bin/?p=893

Click on the above link to read an article by Adam Hudson in the Stanford Progressive that illustrates how what the American chief prosecutor said when Nazi war criminals were being tried in Nuremberg after World War II fits perfectly to the history of the United States (US).

The US chief prosecutor Robert H. Jackson said during the Nuremberg Trials that, "To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime, it is the supreme international crime differencing only from other crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."

This is the same US government that says that Puerto Rico's political relationship is a US domestic issue, and is therefore not of any concern to the United Nations (UN).  The US recognized international law with regards to Nazi Germany, but refuses to acknowledge it in the question of Puerto Rico decolonization.  This is why the US government has ignored 33 UN resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  Instead, it continues dragging its feet, and suggests instead the use of plebiscites to appear that it stands for justice for all.

This is why, we the people who believe, like the UN, that colonialism is a crime against humanity because it constitutes a threat to world peace, must peacefully protest at least 3 times a year until we decolonize Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico colonialism is a crime against humanity

http://listverse.com/2012/10/26/8-atrocities-committed-again-puerto-rico-by-the-us/

Click on the above link to read about 8 atrocities committed by the government of the United States against Puerto Rico.

This is why the United States (US) government does not want to comply with the 33 United Nations' (UN) resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  These resolutions are based on the UN's determination that colonialism is a crime against humanity, because it constitutes a threat to world peace.  The UN was specifically created for the maintenance of world peace.

The US government has ignored these resolutions.  In order to make it appear that the US government is interested in Puerto Rico self-determination and independence, it advocates periodically for plebiscites to allegedly "determine what Puerto Ricans want as a political status".  This may sound like democracy, but it is tyranny!

The problem with these plebiscites is that they are totally unnecessary at this point.  The International Community already decided in 1960 that colonialism is unacceptable, and that the US government must give back to Puerto Rico her sovereignty.  This means that Puerto Rico would become an independent nation whether Puerto Rico wants to or not.  After Puerto Rico becomes an independent nation, she could then enter into any other political relationship she wants.

But this is not what the US government wants.  In order to keep Puerto Rico a US colony forever, it advocates for theses plebiscites every now and then.  If we don't wise up, we will never decolonize Puerto Rico.  This is why we must peacefully protest for at least 3 times a year until we decolonize Puerto Rico.

The UN has asked the US to decolonize PR, not to do more plebiscites!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEH6m5_BI1Q

Click on the link above to see a video of Congressman José Serrano supporting another plebiscite so that "Puerto Ricans can exercise their right to self-determination and independence".

Isn't it interesting that the government of the United States (US) illegally obtained Puerto Rico as its colony by militarily invading her without holding a single plebiscite to ask Puerto Ricans if they wanted that?

The United Nations (UN) has not asked the US government to determine what political status Puerto Ricans prefer.  The UN has already determined that the US government must immediately give back to Puerto Rico her sovereignty.  And that is what the UN has asked the US government to do 33 times.  That would make Puerto Rico an independent nation whether she wants to or not.  After that, she would be in a position under international law to enter into other political relationships.  But since the US government wants to keep Puerto Rico as her colony forever, it plays these plebiscite games to pretends that it stands for justice for all.

That is why everyone who believes, like the UN, that colonialism is a crime against humanity must protest together at least 3 times a year until we colonize Puerto Rico.

Of course, we will also support all demonstrations for the release of our Puerto Rican political prisoner Oscar López Rivera.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xE_GWcCHDZo

http://www.primerahora.com/noticias/gobierno-politica/nota/encuestarevelaqueestadounidensesrechazanlaestadidadparapuertorico-613170/
