Rally for Oscar López Rivera in NYC

Please join us at 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 30th in a 34-minute action to create awareness among our communities and help build a movement for his release. Hermanos are welcome to attend and help distribute literature and gather petitions signatures!

About Oscar López Rivera: Often described as the Nelson Mandela of our generation, Oscar is the longest held Puerto Rican political prisoner in the history of the nation’s independence movement. Activists, singers, politicians, actors, students, religious leaders and lawyers the world over have called on President Barack Obama to exercise his Constitutional power of pardon, and to grant immediate and unconditional release to Oscar López Rivera.

34 Mujeres NYC x Oscar is a group of women from New York City committed to securing Oscar López Rivera’s freedom. We hold monthly rallies for 34 minutes on the last Sunday of every month from 4:00 – 4:34pm to signify the 34 years that Oscar has been imprisoned in federal penitentiaries, and will continue to hold monthly rallies until he is released. Our rallies coincide with actions occurring at the same date and time in San Juan, Puerto Rico that were initiated by 32 women in 2013 to mark Oscar’s 32nd year of imprisonment.

Made in USA: tobacco with child labor

http://mm.hrw.org/content/made-usa-child-labor-tobacco
Click on the above link to see how children's' health and safety are being jeopardized by allowing them to work on tobacco farms in the United States (US).

The problem with capitalism is that capital is more important than children's welfare.  Isn't the United US government designed to benefit its citizens?  How are  US citizens being benefited by having their children's health and safety be at risk on these tobacco farms?

When citizens fear their government, we have tyranny.  When it is the other way around, we have democracy.

Join us in 3 protests a year to force the US government to comply with 34 United Nations resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  We must, because those who allow our children to be at risk, and maintain Puerto Rico as a colony for 117 years don't believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL!

Do we need a second Bill of Rights?

In the original concept of the formation of the United States is the idea that people had a right to a revolution.  When government stops representing its citizens, it is up to citizens to insist that government must.

Join us in 3 protests a year to insist that the US government comply with the United Nations' 34 resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  We must because, those who violate human rights by maintaining Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico as its colony don't believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL!

We have to force the United States government to comply with the United Nations 34 resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  Join us in our 3 protests a year until that happens.  We must because, those who violate human rights by maintaining Puerto Rico a colony, don't believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL!

You can't believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL when you violate HUMAN RIGHTS

Click on the following link to read the United Nation’s (UN) 2014 report on the United States’ record on human rights. http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/22887-un-human-rights-committee-finds-us-in-serious-violation

This is how the United States (US) government institutionally violates people’s human rights every day.  If it does this at home to its own citizens, you know that it will not treat anybody else any better.  So, this notion that the US government spreads that it is a nation that respects the rule of law is obviously false.  This is why, we advocate that citizens must protest to make their government follow the law.

The US government is violating international law by maintaining Puerto Rico a colony of the US.  The US government has ignored 34 UN resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  The US will never decolonize her unless it is forced to.

Every year, the UN holds its annual hearing about Puerto Rico decolonization on the Monday following Fathers’ Day.  We will be having a protest march for Puerto Rico decolonization every year on that same day at 9 AM from Hunter College to the UN.  Please join us so that one day this march will be so big that the US government will have to comply with the UN’s resolutions.  Martin Luther King Jr. said that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”  And we say, those who violate their own citizens’ human rights, and maintain colonies, don’t believe in “JUSTICE FOR ALL!
