Puerto Rico’s colonial case at the United Nations (UN) this year will be on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 9 AM.  You will be able to hear it on WIPR radio, or watch it on TV Chanel 13.  These transmissions are part of our campaign to get out of the closet Puerto Rico’s colonial status.

We want the whole world to know that the UN is in its 3rd decade trying to decolonize the planet.  Despite 34 UN resolutions asking the United States (US) government to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico, it has refused to comply with international law.

The more people know about our case through these annual hearings, the more global pressure we would be able to apply on this government to respect Puerto Rico’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

On the same day of the hearing, we will have our 3rd Oscar – Mandela March in New York City at 9 AM from Hunter College to the Ralph Bunche Park opposite the UN.  Please call your family and friends so they could join us.

Puerto Rico must not cooperate with the empire.  We have to permanently and peacefully protest, until we achieve decolonization.  We must demand it in one voice, because those who have colonized us for 118 years, don’t believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL!

On Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 6 PM a group of citizens gathered for a vigil at the Puerto Rico Capitol Building to advocate for The Carolina Natural Forest Costal Reserve.  This forest is already well developed in the 5 acres next to the Courtyard Marriott Hotel.  Click on the following link to see the video about this event:  https://youtu.be/sBAJr-764wc

The government wants to illegally transfer this land to the Marriott Hotel.  In 2005, a group of citizens occupied this land to prevent that from happening.

A group of citizens has turned the land leveled for hotel construction into an impressive costal forest where animal species are returning to it.

On Friday, April 22, 2016 at 9:30 AM, Coalición Playas Pal Pueblo, Amigos de Mar y Arrecifes Pro Ciudad held a press conference to inform the public about their plan to convert the disputed land into The Carolina Natural Forest Costal Reserve.  The citizens will give each legislator a tree grown in the costal forest after the press conference.

The government represents the people in a real democracy.  It will be interesting to see if the government will go ahead with its plan to illegally transfer this land to the hotel, or allows the People of Puerto Rico to enjoy it.

On Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 7 PM in Naranjito, Puerto, there was a talk about the Popular Boricua Army Machetero Commandant, Filiberto Ojeda Ríos.  The Naranjito Ñin Negrón Movement sponsored the event.

Our Conrad Norberto Cintrón Fiallo, President of the la Coordinadora Caribeño y Latinoamericana de Puerto Rico was in charge of the talk. Click on the following link to see a video about it: https://youtu.be/AEiAOIB_1ks

The most significant parts of the event for me were the emphasis on:

1.      The need to unite forces among the freedom fighters

2.      Allowing each person or independence group to operate in the manner that it sees fit to achieve our independence

3.      Recognizing that armed resistance is always an option

4.      Respecting our differences

5.      Never collaborating with the empire

6.      Always resisting our colonial status

The more informed we are about our true history, the more unity we will have to decolonize ourselves.

We must speak with one voice to decolonize, because those who colonize don’t believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL!

¿Está Gutiérrez viendo el cuadro grande? / Is Gutiérrez seeing the big picture?

Luis Gutiérrez is seen in this video arguing in the United States (US) House of Representative that Puerto Rico needs the ability to restructure her debt.  Click on the following link to see that:  https://youtu.be/zuXkIQ-yJWM

Where is he not seeing the big picture?

1.      He accepts the lie that the debt belongs to Puerto Rico.

2.      He acknowledges that Puerto Rico is a property of the United States as the House Speaker reminded them.

3.      He admits that Puerto Rico is a colony of the United States, but seeks to leave her there by suggesting to only make certain changes to lessen our pains.

4.      He mentions King George of English, instead of mentioning the fact that the US government is in violation of international law (UN Resolution 1514 XV of 1960) by maintaining Puerto Rico as its colony.

5.      He mentions King George of England again instead of mentioning that that US government has thus far ignored 34 UN resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.

Even if Gutiérrez gets what he is asking for, Puerto Rico would still remain the oldest colony in the world.  This is why after 118 years of colonialism Puerto Rico does not have a consensus for her decolonization.  There are too many people who believe that we have to cooperate with the empire.  They believe that the empire will someday take pity on us, and do the right thing.  Here again, people who believe that are not seeing the big picture.

Colonies are designed for exploitation.  The belief that one day the empire will do the right thing by us is totally irrational.  What would be rational?

The rational thing would be for us to reach the consensus that we definitely cannot cooperate with the empire.  Then, we should collectively coordinate peaceful and permanent protests until the US government complies with the 34 UN resolutions.

This would make a lot more sense than what Gutiérrez is proposing, because those who have colonies don’t believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL!
