Todavía pendiente la fecha de independencia para Puerto Rico después de más de 500 años / Puerto Rico’s date of independence is still pending after over 500 years!

Mientras le enviaba mensajes electrónicos a miembros de la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) me percaté que cerca de sus direcciones estaban las fechas de sus independencias.  Todas las naciones, excepto 17, han sido descolonizadas.  ¡Esto demuestra que la mayoría de las naciones no quieren el coloniaje  para ellas mismas!

¿Cuál es el propósito de la ONU?  La contestación más directa es crear y mantener la paz mundial.  ¿Cómo se logra eso?  La mejor contestación es la que dijo el Dr. Martin Luther King.  El dijo, “La injusticia donde quiera es una amenaza a la justicia mundial.”      

¡Cuando leí eso, me impresionó lo profundo que era esa oración tan sencilla!  De repente, entendí porque él había expandido su agenda para incluir la guerra en Vietnam y la pobreza en Estados Unidos (EEUU).  Esa fue su manera de crear y mantener la paz mundial.  Obviamente, él estaba en lo correcto porque recibió el premio Nobel de la Paz en 1964.  4 años más tarde, Dr. King fue asesinado en la cuidad de Memphis en Tennessee.   ¡Su sueno, gracias a Dios, continua vivo!

Creo que si nos mantenemos en lo básico del mensaje de King, obtendremos lo que la ONU persigue.  ¡Que curioso el hecho de que el Secretario General de la ONU es de Vietnam!  Eso demuestra que lo que quiso decir el Dr. King.  La llave para lograr la paz es evitar la propagación de la injusticia.  Si hacemos eso, nunca llegará a amenazar “la justicia para todos” de nadie.     

Invito a todos a tener cero tolerancias hacia la injusticia.  Esa es la verdadera manera de crear y mantener la paz mundial.  ¡Esperamos poder contar contigo también!

 

As I emailed members of the United Nations (UN) about Puerto Rico’s decolonization, I noticed that next to their emails were the dates of their independence.  All nations, except 17, are decolonized.  That tells me that colonialism is not what most nations want for themselves!

What is the purpose of the United Nations?  The direct answer would be to create and maintain peace in the world.  How can that be accomplished?  The simplest answer that I can think of is what Dr. Martin Luther King said.  He said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice anywhere.” 

When I first read this, I was amazed at how profound that simple sentence was!  Suddenly, it made sense why Dr. King began to include other social issues in his agenda.  He included the war in Vietnam and the conditions of the poor in the United States of America (US).  This was his way of creating and maintaining world peace.  He was obviously on the right path, since he received in 1964 the Nobel Peace prize.  He was assassinated in Memphis Tennessee 4 years later.  His dream, however and thank God, still lives on! 

I think if we keep it simple and follow Dr. King’s dream, we can obtain what the UN is striving for.  Isn’t it ironic that the Secretary General of the UN is from Vietnam!  That confirms what Dr. King meant.  The key to peace is stopping injustice from spreading.  And if we do that, it will never get to anyone’s “justice for all”.

I invite everyone to have a zero tolerance to injustice anywhere.  That is the real way to create and maintain world peace.  We hope we can count on you too!
