¿Que dice la encarcelación por 31 años de Oscar sobre Estados Unidos? / What does Oscar’s 31 years of imprisonment say about the United States?

Oscar López Rivera ha estado encancelado por 31 años por tratar de derrocar “la autoridad legítima” de Estado Unidos (EEUU) sobre Puerto Rico (PR).  El hecho histórico es que EEUU siembre había querido controlar el Caribe, y por eso entró en lo que ella misma llama, “La Guerra Pequeña y Estupenda”.

Lo que EEUU llama esta autoridad legítima es el  hecho de que derroto a  España en la Guerra Hispano-Americano de 1898, y que España le cedió a PR como botín de guerra.

España le había informado a EEUU que no podía cederle a PR, porque ella había adquirido su soberanía en 1897 bajo La Carta Autonómica.  EEUU no le importó eso, y así fue como adquirió ese “autoridad legitima sobre PR”.

EEUU se pasa continuamente pidiéndoles a todos los países del mundo que liberen sus presos políticos para aparentar que defiende la democracia y los derechos humanos.  La misma Secretaria de Estado Hilary Clinton dijo recientemente que, “Un solo preso político es uno demás.”  ¡Sin embargo,  EEUU tiene la distinción única de haber mantenido al preso político Oscar López Rivera por 31 años!

Según el derecho internacional, todos tenemos el derecho de luchar para descolonizar nuestro país, usando todos los medios necesarios para lograrlo.  ¡Oscar no ha cometido ningún crimen!  Al contrario, EEUU es la que ha cometido el crimen en contra de la humanidad al mantener por 114 años a PR en una relación colonial, y a Oscar por 31 años.

¿Que dicen estos hechos sobre EEUU?

• Ella no respecta los derechos humanos, porque ninguna nación tiene el derecho de adueñarse de otra nación.

• Ella quiere mantener a PR como su colonia para siempre, y por eso mantiene a Oscar en prisión a pesar del reclamo mundial para su liberación.

•  Ella no es una nación que respecta la ley al ignorar las 31 resoluciones de la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) para la descolonización inmediata de PR.  Ella sigue insistiendo que eso es un asunto domestico, y no uno de índole internacional.

Por eso es que todas las personas que sí respetamos de verdad los derechos humanos y la ley tenemos el deber de protestar este coloniaje ilegal contra el Pueblo de Puerto Rico.  ¡Aquellos que practican el colonialismo no creen en la justicia para todos!

Oscar López Rivera has been imprisoned by the United States (US) government for trying to overthrow the “legitimate authority of the US over Puerto Rico”.

What the US calls legitimate authority is the fact that she defeated Spain in a war in 1898.  The US claims that PR was ceded to her by Spain.  The historical facts, however, show that the US had always wanted to control the Caribbean, and that’s why she entered in what she herself has called, “The Splendid Little War”.  

Spain had informed the US that she could not cede PR, because PR had acquired her sovereignty in 1897 by virtue of the Autonomic Charter.  Yet, the US insisted, and to this is how she obtained her legitimate authority over PR.

The United States is always calling for nations all over the world to release their political prisoners in order to portray herself as the defender of democracy and human rights.  The US Secretary of State herself, Hillary Clinton, stated that, “One political prisoner is one too many.”  Yet, Oscar López Rivera is the longest held political prisoner in the world!  Isn’t it ironic that the US is the only nation that holds this distinction!

What do these facts say about the US?

• She does not respect human rights, because no nation has the right to own another nation.

• She wants to keep Puerto Rico as her colony forever, and that’s why the US refuses to release Oscar despite worldwide support to do so.

• Contrary to what she claims, she is not a country that respects the rule of law.  The United Nation has called for the US to decolonize PR 31 times.  The US, however, has refused to do so while insisting that it is a domestic matter, and not an international one 

This is why, all people who do respect human rights and the rule of law must protest this abuse against the People of Puerto Rico.  Those who practice colonialism do not believe in justice for all.
