Those of us who are outraged by these atrocities must be willing to stand up and be counted in a nonviolent protest outside the United Nations (UN) on June 17, 2013.   On that very day, the Special Committee on Decolonization of the UN will be discussing once again Puerto Rico’s colonial status with the United States.  

The United States has ignored 31 UN resolutions calling on her to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  Not only has she not done so, but she has continued to maintain Oscar López Rivera in US custody for 32 years.  Isn’t it ironic that the country that proclaims to be the champion of human rights, liberty and democracy has the sole distinction of having the longing held political prisoner in the world?

We must work together to decolonize Puerto Rico and liberate Oscar López Rivera.  Join the nonviolent protest at 46^th Street and First Avenue from 8AM to 5PM to demand the immediate decolonization of Puerto Rico!  We must, because those who practice and accept colonialism don’t believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL!
