Excarcelación de Oscar = descolonización de Puerto Rico / Oscar’s release = Puerto Rico decolonization

¿Es lo mismo querer excarcelar a Oscar y querer la descolonización de Puerto Rico?  ¡Caro que sí!  ¡Son inseparables!

Oscar López Rivera ha estado en una cárcel de Estados Unidos por 33 años.  No por alguna acción que él  cometió, sino por su creencia.  .  Oscar, como el resto de los países del mundo, cree que Puerto Rico debe ser libre.  De hecho, eso fue exactamente lo que la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) declaró en el 1960 en su resolución 1514 de su Asamblea XV.   La ONU dijo que el coloniaje es un crimen en contra de la humanidad porque constituye una amenaza a la paz mundial. 

¿Sabes lo que respondió el gobierno de Estados Unidos (EEUU)?   EEUU dijo que eso no tiene nada que ver con la ONU.  EEUU dice que la relación colonial de Puerto Rico es un asunto doméstico.  Y por eso el gobierno de Estados Unidos ha ignorado 33 resoluciones de la ONU pidiéndole que descolonice a Puerto Rico inmediatamente.  En la última década, estas resoluciones se aprueban en el Comité de Descolonización por consenso.   ¿No es EEUU la que quiere regar la democracia por todo el Mundo?

Oscar fue convicto por conspiración sediciosa  para derrochar el gobierno de Estados Unidos.  Este “crimen” tiene que ver con lo que uno cree.  Hay gente que dicen que Oscar mató gentes o que fue responsable de explosiones.  Si eso fuera cierto, el gobierno de Estados Unidos lo hubiera convicto por eso, pero no lo hizo. ¿Y por qué no?  ¡Porque EEUU no pudo probarlo!  Por lo tanto, Oscar ha estado en prisión por 33 años simplemente porque él cree y lucha por la descolonización de Puerto Rico.  La ley internacional le da el derecho a toda persona colonizada a usar cualquier medio necesario para descolonizarse.  EEUU usa sus leyes para hacer ilegal la descolonización.  Por tal razón, el gobierno de Estados Unidos es culpable de usar el terrorismo de estado para mantener a Puerto Rico como su colonia.

Hay muchos que dicen que respalda la excarcelación de Oscar porque Estados Unidos le está violando sus derechos humanos.  ¡Eso es verdad!  Y es por exactamente la misma razón que Estados Unidos le está violando los derechos humanos de todos los residentes de Puerto Rico al mantener a Puerto Rico como su colonia.  Oscar no estaría en la cárcel si el no estuviera luchando por la descolonización de Puerto Rico.   ¡Si mantener a Oscar en la cárcel es violarle sus derechos humanos, mantener a Puerto Rico como colonia de Estados Unidos es 3.7 millones veces más de abusivo!

Después de 116 años que el gobierno de Estados Unidos mantiene a Puerto Rico como su colonia, 33 años de tener a Oscar en prisión, y 33 resoluciones ignoradas, no hay duda que EEUU nunca querrá  descolonizar a Puerto Rico.  Y por eso es que EEUU dice que el asunto de Puerto Rico es doméstico.  Pero para aparentar que le interesa resolver “el problema del estatus de Puerto Rico”, habla de celebrar plebiscitos que EEUU puede controlar. 

Por eso, estamos promoviendo 3 protesta anualmente hasta que Puerto Rico se descolonice.  La primera será una marcha en Puerto Rico cada 22 de marzo cuando celebramos la abolición de la esclavitud hasta llegar al tribunal de Estados Unidos.  La segunda será en Puerto Rico el día antes de la vista sobre la descolonización de Puerto Rico en la Organización de Naciones Unidas.   La tercera será en Nueva York en la ONU el mismo día de la vista sobre la descolonización de Puerto Rico.  Esta vista usualmente se celebra un lunes después del Día de los Padres.  Y por supuesto, respaldaríamos todas las manifestaciones por la excarcelación de Oscar por todos los grupos y personas. 
 

¡Tenemos que protestar pacíficamente por lo menos 3 veces al año, porque los que tienen colonias no creen en la justicia para todos!

 

 

Is advocating for Oscar’s release from prison the same as advocating for Puerto Rico
decolonization?  Yes, it is.  Not only that, they are inseparable!

Oscar López Rivera has been in a United States Prison for 33 years.  Not because of any action that he committed, but because of his political belief.  He believes, like the majority of the nations of the world, that Puerto Rico should be a free nation.  In fact, that is exactly what the United Nations (UN) declared in 1960 in its Resolution 1514 of its XV General Assembly.  The UN said that colonialism is a crime against humanity, because it constitutes a threat to world peace. 

Do you what the US government says?  It says that Puerto Rico’s colonial relationship with the United States is not the UN’s business!  The US government says that it is a domestic issue.  And this is why, the US government has ignored thus far 33 UN resolutions calling on the US to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  For the last decade, these resolution are approve by consensus of the UN’s Special Committee on Decolonization.  Isn’t the US government the one that wants to spread democracy throughout the world?

Oscar was convicted by the US government for seditious conspiracy to overthrow the government of the United States.  This “crime” is about a person’s belief.  There are those who claim that Oscar is responsible for killing people and responsible for setting bombs.  If that were true, the US government would have convicted Oscar for that, but it didn’t.  Why?  The US government could not prove it!  Therefore, Oscar has been in jail for 33 years, simply because he believes and fights for the decolonization of Puerto Rico. International law gives everyone who is under colonialism the right to use any means necessary to achieve decolonization.  The US government however uses its laws to criminalize decolonization.  Thus, the US government is guilty of using state terrorism to maintain Puerto Rico a colony of the United States. 

There are many who say that they support the release of Oscar, because the United States government is violating his human rights.  That is absolutely true.  That is exactly why the US government is also violating the residents' of Puerto Rico human rights by continuing to maintain Puerto Rico as its colony.  Oscar would not be in jail today had he not been fighting for Puerto Rico decolonization.  So if keeping Oscar in jail is a violation of human rights, keeping Puerto Rico a colony is 3.7 million times more abusive!

After 116 years of the government of the United States having Puerto Rico as its colony, having Oscar in prison for 33 years, and ignoring 33 UN resolutions, it is absolutely clear that the US government never wants to decolonize Puerto Rico.  And this is why it claims that Puerto Rico is a domestic issue, and pretends to be interested in “resolving Puerto Rico’s political status problem” through plebiscites that it can control.

We are therefore proposing 3 permanent peaceful protests a year until Puerto Rico is decolonized. The first one will be every March 22 in Puerto Rico on the day we celebrate the abolition of slavery at the US Courthouse.  The second one will be in Puerto Rico on a day before every United Nations’ Puerto Rico decolonization hearing.  The third one will be at the UN on the day it holds the Puerto Rico decolonization hearing.  This hearing is usually on a Monday after Fathers’ Day.  And of course, we will also support all demonstration by other groups or individuals for the release of Oscar from prison.

We must peacefully protest at least 3 times a year, because those who have colonies don’t believe in justice for all!
