El año pasado, la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) no publicó el video de la vista del 2013.  Traté todo el año que lo publicara, pero nadie me respondió.  Eso fue un gran error ya que la educación sobre el caso colonial de Puerto Rico es clava para la movilización de gente para protestar pacíficamente sobre este crimen en contra de la humanidad. 

Este año, la ONU volvió a cometer otro error, aunque no tan grave como el que acabo de mencionar.  La vista del 2014 únicamente se publicó en inglés.  Solo el 15% de los puertorriqueños hablamos inglés con fluidez.  Eso quiere decir que el 85% no van a entender perfectamente lo que se discutió sobre su futuro político.  Hago estas críticas de buena fe y consistente con la sugerencia que le hace anualmente el Secretario General de la ONU, Ban Ki-moon, al Comité de Descolonización sobre la necesidad de trabajar con los que sufren el coloniaje para acelerar el proceso de descolonización.   

Como resultado de la vista este año, la ONU aprobó la resolución número 33 por consenso pidiéndole al gobierno de Estados Unidos que inmediatamente descolonice a Puerto Rico.  El representante de Cuba nos informó por la tarde que todos los 120 países del Movimiento de los No Alineados y todos los 33 países de la Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (CELAC) respaldan la descolonización de Puerto Rico.  Un miembro del comité le preguntó al presidente, ¿Qué más podemos hacer después de que el gobierno de Estados Unidos haberle ignorado sus 32 resoluciones?  Es importante destacar que la ONU está en su  tercera década tratando de erradicar el colonialismo del mundo.

La clave para erradicar el colonialismo es aglutinar a todos los que creemos que dicha relación política es un crimen en contra de la humanidad para unirnos en un tsunami de gente para protestar.  Tan pronto eso suceda, el imperio no tendrá otra alternativa que cumplir con las resoluciones.  Pero para que suceda eso, tendremos que educar al público sobre la verdadera historia y las consecuencias destructivas del colonialismo para la humanidad.  

Invitamos a todos que nos unamos para hacer 3 protestas anuales hasta lograr la descolonización de Puerto Rico.  La primera será cada 22 de marzo (La Marcha Oscar – Mandela en Puerto Rico) en el día que celebramos la abolición de la esclavitud.  La secunda será cada domingo antes de la vista anual de la ONU para llamar atención a la misma.  La última será un lunes después de cada Día de los Padres en el mismo día que la ONU celebra su vista sobre la descolonización de Puerto Rico (la Protesta Oscar – Mandela en Nueva York).   

Estas protestas son obviamente indispensable después de que el gobierno de Estados Unidos ha tenido a Puerto Rico como su colonia por 116 años.  ¡Sin duda alguna, el gobierno de Estados Unidos no cree en la justicia para todos!

Last year, the United Nations (UN) did not publish the 2013 Puerto Rico decolonization hearing.  I tried the whole year to get the UN to publish it, but no one responded.  That was a huge mistake since the education of the public is so crucial to the mobilization of people to peacefully protest for Puerto Rico decolonization. 

This year, the UN made another bad mistake, although not as bad as the one I just mentioned.  The UN only posted the 2014 Puerto Rican decolonization hearing in English, unlike in 2012.  Only 15% of us residing in Puerto Rico are fluent in English.  That means that 85% of residence of Puerto Rico will not fully understand what happened in this hearing about their political future!  I make these 2 constructive criticisms in good faith, and consistent with the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon’s call every year to the Decolonization Committee to work closely with the colonized people in order to expedite the decolonization process.

With this year’s hearing, the UN has approved, with consensus, its 33rd resolution asking the government of the United States to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  Cuba’s representative noted in the afternoon session that all the 120 states of the Non-aligned Movement and all of the 33 members of the Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (CELAC) are in solidarity with Puerto Rico decolonization.  A committee member asked the Chair, what else the UN could do to accelerate the eradication of colonialism after United States (US) government having ignored thus far 32 of its resolutions.  It is important to note that the UN is in its third decade trying to eradicate colonialism.

The key to the eradication of colonialism is getting everyone who considers it a crime against humanity to join together in a tsunami of protesters.  Once that happens, the empire will have no choice, but to comply with the 33 resolutions.  But for that to happen, we will all need to educate the public about the true history surrounding colonialism and its destructive effect on humanity.

We invite everyone to join hands to do 3 peaceful protests a year until Puerto Rico is decolonized.  They will be every March 22nd (The Oscar – Mandela March in Puerto), on every Sunday before the annual UN hearing, and on a Monday after Fathers’ Day on the day that the UN holds its hearing on Puerto Rico decolonization (The Oscar – Mandela Protest in New York City).  

These protests are obviously indispensable, because, after 116 years of Puerto Rico being a colony of the government of the United States, we know that it does not believe in justice for all!
