Lolita Lebrón was the leader of the 4 Puerto Rican nationalists who attacked the United States (US) Congress in 1954 to call world attention to that Puerto Rico is a US colony since 1898. Click on the following link to hear her attorney talk about her: https://youtu.be/VuN6cTaz7do
123 years later, the US government (USG) still maintains Puerto Rico as its colony despite the fact that:
1. Colonialism is a crime against humanity, and the United Nations’ (UN) Charter prohibits it since 1945 (9 years before the nationalists’ attack on Congress)
2. The UN has asked the USG, in 39 resolutions, to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. http://webtv.un.org/watch/5th-meeting-committee-of-24-special-committee-on-decolonization/6051725003001/
3. People living under colonialism have an inalienable right to their self-determination and independence.
The UN holds
an annual Puerto Rico decolonization hearing in New York City usually on the Monday
after Fathers’ Day. Just like the New York Press kept silence anything that
could cause people to be sympathetic towards Puerto Rico decolonization, the
media today, including the UN itself, still do the same with these hearings.
At a time
where 5.4 million Puerto Ricans have abandoned our national territory, because of
a lack of opportunity, and that this is 2 million more than the population that
have refused to do so (3.2), we must unite to save our homeland! www.TodosUnidosDescolonizarPR.blogspot.com
We must
engage in permanent resistance to force the USG to comply with international
law. What could be more democratic than that?
Puerto
Ricans must now speak.
