Puerto Rico, what is she for?

Colonial Sickness Causes Delusions on Celebrating Independence

Click on the link above to watch a video of what a colony is for.  You will see that the residents of the colony are not benefiting from this relationship.  You will see the exploitation of Puerto Ricans in their homeland, instead of their pursuit of happiness.

Colonialism, like slavery discriminates.  People who practice colonialism do it because they benefit greatly from it.  They will not stop just because, it is wrong.  People who are convinced that it is wrong must protest massively until decolonization is achieved.

Join the peaceful protest at the United Nations on June 17, 2013 to demand the immediate decolonization of Puerto Rico.  Because, those who accept colonialism, don’t believe in justice for all!

If colonialism is good for Puerto Rico, why this?

BBC News - World News America - Puerto Rico struggles during the economic downturn

Click on the above link to see what life is like in the colony of Puerto Rico (PR).  As you watch it, ask yourself, who benefits from this relationship?

People who practice and support colonialism do not believe in justice for all.  This is why we can’t wait for them to decolonize PR.

We need a massive non-violent protest at the United Nations on June 17, 2013 to demand PR decolonization now.  I hope to see you there!

Puerto Rico’s Resident Commissioner informed US Congress about plebiscite

Results Of Puerto Rico Political Status Plebiscite | Capitol Words

Click on the above link to read the Resident Commissioner’s address to the United States Congress about the November 6, 2012 Puerto Rico (PR) Political Status Plebiscite.

Congress will do nothing to change the 114 years of colonial rule over PR.  The US has no motivation to change what she established in 1898.  While PR is devastated by this relationship, the US continues to benefit tremendously through the exploitation that is inherent in having a colony.

This plebiscite is a waste of time, because it asks asking the one who wants the colonial relationship to do away with it.  With all the benefits that the US gets out of it, why should she?

This is why international law has jurisdiction over decolonization, and the imperial power does not.  And this is why the June 17, 2013 protest at the United Nations (UN) is so important.  We need to demand that the UN initiate the PR decolonization process immediately.  We cannot continue to wait for the empire to do it, because it is not in her interest to do so.  I hope to be able to meet you there!

What is wrong with Puerto Rico’ status plebiscite?

Nosotros no conocemos nuestra historia a propósito.

Puerto Rico celebrated a plebiscite last November 6, 2012 to determine whether we wanted to:
·         Continue to be a colony of the United States (US)
·         Become a state of the Union
·         Become a sovereign free associated state with the US
·         Or to become an independent nation.

The majority voted against continuing to be a colony, and favored becoming the 51st State of the Union.  So what is wrong with that?  Plenty!

A colony can’t have valid elections.  By definition, a colony is controlled by another country, and therefore a voter can not make a decision that is free from the manipulation of the empire.

The process of decolonization can not be under the control of the empire.  In order to exercise self-determination, the colony must cease to be a colony first.  This is why decolonization is under the jurisdiction of international law.  After all, the colony became a colony because the empire wanted it that way!  PR can not go from being a colony of the US to being the 51st State of the US.  PR would have to be an independent nation first, before she could decide to integrate into the US.

Half a million voters did not express a preference to which political status they wanted.  Why did that happen?

Over 4 million Puerto Ricans living off the island were not considered in this paramount discussion.  Most of them were forced to emigrate from PR dues to the economic hardship produced by the US’ exploitation.  They regret having to do that!  Why do you think we all cry when we hear, “En Mi Viejo San Juan”?  Pedro Albizu Campos warned us about the US’ interest in the cage, and not the birds.  By getting rid of us, and repopulating the cage with her birds, then she would have the cage with the kind of birds that would guarantee statehood for PR.

The US has repressed the independence of PR during these 114 years.  Do you believe that that might have had an effect on why statehood got the majority of the votes?  The Ponce Massacre, the Cerro Maravilla assassinations, the Feliberto Ojeda Rios Assassination, the FBI’s Counter Intelligence Operation (COINTELPRO), to name a few, were aimed at discouraging independence for PR.  It is a joke to hear US politicians says that the US is willing to give PR whatever political status she wants.  For the many Puerto Ricans who don’t know their history, they naively believe them!

We are a divided about status, because the US has wanted it that way.  That is the result of the repression.  It is also the result Puerto Ricans not knowing our history.  We only know some distorted propaganda that the US wants us to know in order to keep us under her control.

If the US really wants to decolonize PR, all she has to do is ask the United Nations (UN) to manage the process.  But, she doesn’t do that.  She prefers to violate international by continuing to have colonies, and hold these charades to continue to deceive the world that she is about respecting the rule of law.

This is why the UN protest this June 17, 2013 is so important!  One thing is undisputable.  Any nation that has colonies does not believe in justice for all!

This article reveals a confusion that we have as a result of our long time exposure to propaganda.  Let’s talk about this great myth.

The article is absolutely correct on:

  • This plebiscite will not solve Puerto Rico’s (PR) colonial  problem
  • There are more Puerto Ricans living off the island than on it
  • Puerto Ricans on the island should look upon Puerto Rican off the island as one nation
  • Puerto Ricans off the island must have a voice in whatever choice we make regarding the future political status of PR
  • The concern for the loss of our Puerto Rican culture should Puerto Ricans decide to become a state of the United States (US) of America
However, this notion that, under the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, we have the best of both worlds is totally not true!  This idea that our present relationship with the US permits us to keep our culture, while at the same time, allow us to enjoy the benefits of being US citizens is not supported by historical evidence.  What benefits could the article be referring to?  Colonies are obtained to exploit them.  And, the case of PR is no exception!

The reason why we have more compañeros off our island is because there are no opportunities for them on the island (58% according to this article).  Puerto Ricans and Palestinians are the only ones who have more of their nationals outside of her homelands.  Therefore, this is an aberration!  Those of us who has left our beloved homeland have done so out of necessity.  Excluding the Puerto Rican Diaspora from participating in any decision about PR’s political destiny is to be an accomplice to the US’s plan to take PR.  The US creates the conditions (colonialism) to get Puerto Ricans to abandon their homeland, then she prohibits then from participating in plebiscites so they could be replaced by others that will vote the way the government wants.  Don Pedro Albizu Campos warned us about this when he said, “The US wants the cage, and not the birds.”  That is why the name, Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico is ridiculous!  The name is designed to hide the real truth!

PR presently has a work force of about 40%.  The other 60% rely on government assistance.  They do, not because they want to, but because PR’s wealth has been taken away from us.  The US would rather give PR welfare (a small portion of the wealth she has extracting from us), than to allow us to develop PR.

Did you know that the US recruits more soldiers from PR than any other state of the Union?  Do you think it is because we are more patriotic than the US citizens in the 50 states of the Union?  Or is it because of the same reason we now have more Puerto Ricans off the island than on it.

When slavery was outlawed in the United States, some slaves wanted to remain as slaves.  That was all they knew, and, understandably, they were afraid of the unknown.  But, because slavery was declared illegal, remaining a slave was not an option for them.

Similarly, there of some of us who would rather remain in our present political status than choose freedom.  But that, as in slavery, is not an option for us even if a majority of us want it.  Since 1960, the United Nations (UN) determined that colonialism is a crime against humanity.  The US is committing a crime by keeping PR a colony.  The only reason why a majority of Puerto Ricans prefer the status quo is because of the US state terrorism we have suffered since the military invasion of 1898.  This is why international law requires that we must first be free, before we can decide on any other political relationship we believe would suit us better.

It’s time for us to evaluate how we feel about where we want to go, and whether it is based on the real facts about our history.  And remember: Those who accept colonialism don’t believe in justice for all!

I hope to meet you at the UN protest on June 17, 2013!
