When the United Nations was founded, a third of the world's population lived under colonialism.  Today, there are 18 countries who still do not direct their own destiny.

The 3rd International Decade for the Eradication of World Colonialism will end in 2020.  Please help us get it done!

In June 2016, we will have our 3rd Oscar - Mandela March from Hunter College to the Ralph Bunche Park across the United Nations (UN) on the same day the UN holds its annual hearing to discuss Puerto Rico decolonization.  Please join us!

Who’s against Puerto Rico independence?

Recently, the United States celebrated its 239th Independence Day!  Who could be against that? Nobody!

But, should we asked, “Who is against the independence of Puerto Rico?”  The United States government is!  Let’s start from the beginning.

Before the United States became a nation, the English colonists almost died, had it not been for the Native Americans.  They taught them how to farm in America.  The English colonists rewarded them by either killing them or putting them in concentration camps that they creatively called reservations.

When the English colonists found out about the Caribbean Islands, they advised England to conquer them.

When Simon Bolivar asked the United States (US) for support and aid to liberate the last 2 remaining Spanish colonies in America (Cuba and Puerto Rico), the US said no.  The US government wanted Cuba and Puerto to remain as they were.  Obviously, the US government had other plans for them!

In 1897, Puerto Rico gained autonomy from Spain by virtue of the Autonomic Charter.  Spanish laws would no longer apply in Puerto Rico unless they were approved by the Puerto Ricans.  The following year in 1898, the US government declared war on Spain, and forced her to give up Puerto Rico.  So after 405 years of being a colony of Spain, Puerto Rico has now been a colony of the US government for 117 years.

In 1950, the Puerto Rican Nationalists Party revolted against the US government.  Although unsuccessful, the US government decided to give Puerto Rico a name that would sound more like if she was not a colony.  In 1952, it decided on the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or in Spanish, el Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico.

The following year, the US asked the United Nations (UN) to remove Puerto Rico off its list of colonies, because she had reached self-government with the new name the US had given her.  And, the UN did!

The following year, 1954, 4 Puerto Ricans nationalist attacked Congress in Washington, DC to draw attention to the fact that Puerto Rico was still a US colony.

In 1960, the UN declared colonialism a crime against humanity, because it threatens world peace.  Thus far, the UN has asked the US government 34 times to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  They have all been ignored!

How is it possible for a country like the United States, with such a short history of 239 years, gets to become the most powerful nation in the world?  It has done so by taking the wealth away from every nation that has allowed her to.  Did you know that for every dollar that the US invests in Puerto Rico, it gets back 14 dollars?  No wonder there are more Puerto Ricans out of Puerto Rico than in!

The UN is in its third decade trying to eradicate colonialism from the world.  History has shown that the US government has provoked conflicts and wars.  We can say without a doubt that the US government is not interested in world peace.  The fact that King said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” does not dissuade the US government from creating more injustice.  It is precisely that injustice which it continues to perpetuate that has permitted the US government to become the most powerful nation in the world.   And then, it has the audacity to call others terrorists!

http://webtv.un.org/search/4th-meeting-special-committee-on-the-situation-with-regard-to-the-implementation-of-the-declaration-on-the-granting-of-independence-to-colonial-countries-and-peoples/4314285223001?term=Puerto

Embajador Xavier Mendoza
Presidente C-24
United Nations, New York

Secretario General Ban Ki-moon
United Nations Headquarters
New York, NY 10017

Dear Partners,

As you might already know, we almost achieved getting the 2015 United Nation’s (UN) Puerto Rico decolonization hearing broadcast live through the UN’s radio and television.  At the last moment, the order was rescinded.

This prompted the President of the Decolonization Committee to express his discontent over the matter, and stated that he considered it a lack of respect to him as president.  His comments were made just before he allowed the petitioners to address the committee.

The morning session of Monday, June 22, 2015 where 27 petitioners spoke, and where the President made his comments was not recorded for the WEBCAST.  The UN has on its WEBCAST only the afternoon session where the remaining 9 petitioners spoke in a badly produced video.

It is of utmost importance that we get Puerto Rico’s colonial relationship with the United States out of the closet.  This is why we are asking all those who also feel the same way to put continuous pressure from now until June of 2016 so that we could be assured that the UN will broadcast it next year.

To write an email to the President of the Decolonization Committee saying that Puerto Rico wants the 2016 Puerto Rico decolonization hearing broadcast:

Embajador Xavier Mendoza
Presidente C-24
United Nations, New York

To write a letter to the UN’s Secretary General Ban Ki-moon:

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon
United Nations Headquarters
New York, NY 10017

It is also imperative that we all support the bill that will be submitted by the Puerto Rico Independence Party to require that Channel 6 and 3 to broadcast the UN’s annual Puerto Rico Decolonization Hearing.

Thank you for your solidarity!

Un abrazo,
José M López Sierra, 787-429-1981

Apoya Día Internacional para la Descolonización Mundial / Support International World Decolonization Day

Estimado Secretario General Ban Ki-moon:

Sinceramente,

José M López Sierra

I sent yesterday a letter to Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Ban Ki-moon.  It was a proposal to convert Columbus Day (October 12th) into International Decolonization Day.  In case you didn't know, the UN is currently in its third decade trying to eradicate the world of colonialism.
On this day, the world would be informed of all the remaining colonies, and what countries are still in violation to the international law that prohibits colonialism since 1960.  Puerto Rico is the oldest and most populated colony of them all.  It has been a colony of the United States government for 117 years.

Oscar Lopez Rivera has been imprisoned for 34 years for his efforts to decolonize Puerto Rico.  Oscar has the right to do this under international law.  It is the US government that is the criminal!

Here is a copy of the letter.  I invite you send letters to all those who you believe can help to make this commemorative day possible!

July 20, 2015

Dear Secretary General Ban Ki-moon:

My name is José M López Sierra from the oldest colony in the world.

I know that the United Nations (UN) is in its third decade trying to eradicate world colonialism.  As you well know, Puerto Rico is the most populated of the remaining colonies.

Due to over a hundred years of United States colonialism, we now have more Puerto Ricans living away from our national territory.  This, of course, constitutes an aberration that clearly demonstrates, in the most graphic manner possible, how the “Puerto Rican government”, which in reality is the United States government, isn’t responding to the needs of the residence of Puerto Rico.  How could it?  Isn’t that the essence of colonialism?

55 years has gone by since the UN declared colonialism a crime against humanity.  And in those 55 years, the UN has been ineffective in exerting the level of international pressure necessary to make the United States government comply with international law, and reduce the threat of world peace.

May I propose this grass root initiative to convert the celebration of Columbus Day (October 12th) to International Decolonization Day?  On this day, the world would be reminded of all of the existing colonies, and the names of the countries that are still in violation to international law that prohibits colonialism.  This, coupled with the UN broadcasting live the Puerto Rico decolonization hearing, by both radio and television, so that the world could be aware of the yearly discussions, would focus the necessary international pressure to force the United States government to comply with the existing 34 UN resolutions which it has thus far ignored for so long.  After 117 years of US-Puerto Rico colonialism, we could safely conclude that the US government will not decolonize unless forced to!  If you would like to speak to me personally about this, I would be happy to do that.

Thank you for your time.  Count on me to help the UN achieve the eradication of colonialism.  That is intrinsically connected to the essence of the UN’s mission.  Without it, the UN would have no reason to exist.

Dr. King had it right when he said, “There could be no peace without justice.  Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Sincerely,

No recibí contestación.

¡Muchas gracias!

Every Monday after Father’s Day, the United Nations (UN) hold a hearing to discuss Puerto Rico’s colonial relationship with the United States government.  The most significant development this year’s hearing was the Special Committee for Decolonization’s (C-24) President’s comments before the petitioners were allow to address the committee.  I was petitioner number 7.

The C-24 President said that he was sorry to have to make such a comment.  He stated that he felt that he had been disrespected by the UN.  He goes on to explain how he had been assured that this year’s hearing would be broadcast live, and then at the last minute, told it would not. The logical question is, why hasn’t these hearings been broadcast live before?

This committee is charged with eradicating the world of its 17 last colonies.  One would think that the committee (C-24) would be authorized by the United Nations (UN) to use everything at its disposal to get the work done!  The UN has its own radio and television stations.  Isn’t it odd that, until we asked, that the committee hasn’t been broadcasting live these hearings on its own initiative?  Isn’t it also remarkable that these annual hearings are not broadcast on Puerto Rico’s own government’s radio and TV stations?  It is obvious that there is a strong interest to maintain Puerto Rico as a United States colony forever!  The following is the chronology of events leading to the committee’s president’s comment.

Radio station InformacionAlDesnudo.com decided to feature on three consecutive Saturdays, June 6, 13, and 20th from 7 to 9 PM, the Monday, June 22, 2915 United Nations (UN) hearing concerning the decolonization of Puerto Rico.  On the June 20th program, the entire Puerto Rican delegation petitioning the UN was invited to tell us what it will say there on Monday.

InformacionAlDesnudo.com decided that the logical culmination to our series would be to be able to tell our listeners where to hear the hearing live.  When we searched for such a station, we realized that there was none.  Still more incredible was the fact that not even the UN was going to broadcast this hearing live. And even still more incredible enough was the fact that Puerto Rico’s government owned radio an TV station, WIPR would not be broadcasting it either!  Isn’t democratic governments supposed to be of the people, by the people and for the people?  Why aren’t the people of Puerto Rico not being made aware firsthand about their own decolonization?

I wrote a certified letter to the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon about it.  I sent an email to the president of the UN’s Special Committee for Decolonization (C-24).  I got no response from the Ban- Ki-moon, but by was if the C-24, I received 2 emails.

First a C-24 secretary informed me that there is cost to broadcast the hearing live, and that the Committee did not have the money to broadcast the hearing.  I responded that if we know how much money it would take, that maybe we might be able to provide it.

Three days later, I receive that last email about this.  The same secretary thanked me for my offer, but that the financing had to be done by member states of the UN.  I then thank him for his time in this matter.

The morning part of hearing was not recorded which is an aberration for the UN.  The afternoon, however, recorded, but not in the usual professional manner.  Click on this link to see the sloppy manner in which it was done.  It is amazing how the other events the UN broadcasts are professionally produced, and either the UN blacks it out, or drags its feet to the extent that eventually led to this pitiful piece of “journalism”.  http://webtv.un.org/search/4th-meeting-special-committee-on-the-situation-with-regard-to-the-implementation-of-the-declaration-on-the-granting-of-independence-to-colonial-countries-and-peoples/4314142267001?term=puerto Rico

The Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) will be presenting a bill in the colonial legislature to broadcast in the future the UN’s Puerto Rico Decolonization Hearing in New York City.  We totally support its proposal!

If we succeed to get out of the closet Puerto Rico’s colonial relationship with the United States government, the worldwide discussion that will occur will eventually lead to our independence.  But before that happens, we must continue to protest tirelessly for that, because as we have said all along, those who have a 117 year old colony, without a doubt, don’t believe in justice for all!
