We have to take the Puerto Rican Colony out of the Closet!

With the intention of getting Puerto Rico colonialism out of the closet, United Partners for the Decolonization of Puerto Rico invites you to The First Oscar – Mandela March in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico has been a colony of the United States (US) for 115 years.  The United Nations has issued 32 resolutions asking the United States to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico because it considers colonialism to be a crime against humanity, and a threat to world peace.  The United States has ignored them all!

To the contrary, the government of the United States, through its laws, has chosen to criminalize Puerto Rico decolonization.  This is why our political prisoner and patriot Oscar López Rivera has been in prison for 32 years despite heavy pressure from almost everyone in Puerto Rico and the rest of the world.  The US government knows that releasing Oscar from prison also means that the US is willing to decolonize Puerto Rico.  President Obama’s resistance to free Oscar can only mean that the US still does not want to decolonize Puerto Rico.

To continue having Puerto Rico as a colony, the US government tries to hide from the world her colonial relationship.  The annual United Nations' hearing about Puerto Rico’s colonial relationship is not published on either the Puerto Rico or US media.  My three retired Puerto Rican siblings who have lived all of their lives in New York City didn’t know about these hearings which are held every year right under their noses!  These hearing will continue until Puerto Rico gets decolonized.

This is why, on Saturday, March 22, we invite you to The First Oscar – Mandela March in Puerto Rico.  We will march from the Roosevelt Avenue Station of the Urban Train, down on Luis Munoz Rivera Avenue, turning on Chardon Street, to get to the US Court in Puerto Rico.

Several speakers will address the marchers, and Pepe Sanchez will be in charge of the music.  We are particularly proud to have as our special guest, our national hero, Rafael Cancel Miranda.

Dr. Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr. could have stayed preaching in his church about the injustices, and the human and civil rights abuses he saw around him.  But the time came when he realized that he had to march to raise awareness of these violations.  Everyone, Puerto Rican or not, who also believes that colonialism is a crime against humanity should join us to demand, through one voice, Oscar’s release from prison and the immediate decolonization of Puerto Rico.  If you belong to any group, feel free to bring your flags and signs.

Injustice should never be tolerated.  That’s why MLK said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”  So, we must get colonialism out of the closet, because those who practice or accept colonialism don’t believe in justice for all.

Puerto Rico está maduro para su descolonización

http://www.vtv.gob.ve/articulos/2014/01/22/puerto-rico-esta-maduro-para-ser-parte-de-la-celac-9448.html

¡Espero poder saludarlo!

La Primera Protesta Oscar – Mandela en Puerto Rico / The First Oscar – Mandela Protest in Puerto Rico

We will have the first Oscar – Mandela Peaceful Protest for the decolonization of Puerto Rico and the release of Oscar López Rivera in Puerto Rico.

We have decided to call it Oscar – Mandela because the world is praising, and rightly so, Nelson Mandela’s contribution to helping end the human rights abuses in South Africa, while Oscar López Rivera’s 32 years of incarceration for the decolonization of Puerto Rico is virtually invisible to the world.

The United Nations (UN) is in its third decade trying to eradicate colonialism in the world because it has declared it a crime against humanity due to its threat to world peace.  The United States (US) government has thus far ignored 32 United Nations resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  Meanwhile, President Obama, in his speech at Mandela's memorial said that he asks himself everyday how well he is applying the lessons that Nelson Mandela has taught the world.  I don’t know how he is answering this question, but for me, he is definitely not applying them!

President Obama has the power to release from prison Oscar López Rivera and begin the decolonization of Puerto Rico, but he has decided, like other US presidents, to look the other way.  Under international law, Oscar has a right to use whatever means necessary to decolonize his country.  It is the United States government that commits an international crime by having Puerto Rico as its colony for 116 years.  Over 95% of the nations represented in the United Nations have asked the United States to decolonize Puerto Rico and free, specifically, Oscar López Rivera .  Many prominent people and the colonial government of Puerto Rico have also petitioned the United States to free Oscar.  But, President Obama, just like the government of the United States has done for 116 years, refuses to acknowledge and correct the crime that it commits against the People of Puerto Rico.  How could President Obama be applying Mandela’s lessons when he does nothing in support of Oscar who is doing exactly what Nelson Mandela did?

Join us on Saturday, March 22, 2014 to peacefully protest for the decolonization of Puerto Rico and the release from prison of Oscar López Rivera.  On this day, Puerto Rico celebrates the Abolition of Slavery.  We decided on this day, because colonialism is a form of enslaving a country.  We will march from the Roosevelt Avenue Urban Train Station at 2 PM to the United States Court on Chardón Street in Hato Rey.  If you belong to any particular group, feel free to bring your flags and signs to the protest.  We want it to be a collective effort involving everyone who believes that colonialism is a crime against humanity and a threat to world peace!

And remember, those who practice or accept colonialism, don’t believe in justice for all!

How well has President Obama applied Nelson Mandela's lessons in his own life?

http://www.businessinsider.com/obama-nelson-mandela-memorial-service-speech-full-text-2013-12

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SggOsfjsL0c

The title for this post is the question that President Obama asked in his Nelson Mandela memorial speech.  He said that he asks himself this question as a man and as a President.  You can read the entire speech by clicking on the first link above.  Click on the second link to see the video.

President Obama said that "around the world today, men and women are still imprisoned for their political beliefs..."  He said that "there are too many leaders who claim solidarity with Mandela's struggle for freedom, but do not tolerate dissent from their own people."  This applies, without a doubt, to him, although he went on as if he was obviously talking about others.  Did you know that the government of the United States helped the government of South Africa with intelligence information to capture Nelson Mandela?  Click here for more on that: http://www.democracynow.org/2013/12/13/one_of_our_greatest_coups_the
Click here to hear President Raul Castro's speech, and a video when Mandela visited Cuba after he was released from prison in 1991 to invite Fidel Castro to visit South Africa: http://www.democracynow.org/2013/12/10/cubas_raul_castro_praises_nelson_mandelas

The answer to how well President Obama is applying Mandela's lessons, in my opinion, is not at all!  This is especially troublesome when you consider that President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009!

The Puerto Rican political prisoner Oscar López Rivera has been incarcerated in the United States for 32 years for his struggle to decolonize Puerto Rico.  Puerto Rico has been a colony of the United States for 115 years.  The United States (US) has ignored 32 United Nations (UN) resolutions asking her to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  Under international law, Oscar has the right to use all means necessary to decolonize his country.  Under international law, it is the government of the United States that commits a crime by having Puerto Rico as its colony.

President Obama has thrown away an excellent opportunity to free Oscar López Rivera and decolonize Puerto Rico.  He has instead preferred not see what is happening in his own country, and send messages in his speech to other countries that they should free their political prisoners and improve their human rights practices.

Join us to peacefully protest twice a year until Puerto Rico gets decolonized.  The first one will be every Abolition of Slavery Day in Puerto Rico (March 22, 2014), and the second, every Monday after Fathers' Day in New York City on the day the UN holds its hearing on Puerto Rico decolonization (June 16, 2014).  It is obvious by President Obama's non recognition of Puerto Rico's political prisoner Oscar López Rivera that the United States government does not want to decolonize Puerto Rico.  These peaceful protests are essential, because those who practice or accept colonialism do not believe in justice for all!
