El domingo 21 de octubre de 2012, hubo una marcha en contra del gobierno del actual gobernador de la colonia de Puerto Rico (PR) con la consigna de, “Prohibido Olvidar”.  Su propósito fue recordarle a los electores todo lo malo que ha hecho Luis Fortuño para que no voten por él el 6 de noviembre de 2012.  ¡Yo pienso que nuestro recuerdo debe ir mucho más lejos que eso!

Nuestro problema empezó con la invasión de Estados Unidos (EEUU) del 1898.  Desde esa fecha, hemos sido una colonia, entre cuatro que actualmente tiene EEUU.  ¡PR es la colonia más vieja y la más poblada en el mundo!  Es necesario recordarle que las colonias se obtienen con el único propósito de explotarlas.  Las condiciones desastrosas que vivimos hoy en PR son los resultados de 114 años de ser colonia de EEUU.  ¡De eso es que debemos todos estar prohibidos olvidar!

¿Pero qué es lo que hacemos?  ¡Jugamos el juego que EEUU quiere que juguemos, para poder seguirnos explotando!   85% de nosotros participamos electoralmente en una mal llamada “democrática”.  ¿Cómo es posible tener elecciones democráticas en una colonia?  ¿Qué demuestra el hecho de que celebramos elecciones en una colonia?  Demuestra que nosotros desconocemos nuestra historia.  José Marti dijo que, “Para un pueblo ser libre, primero tiene que ser culto.”

¡EEUU entendió muy bien a José Marti!  Por eso, después de la invasión, la educación en PR se empezó a darse en Ingles por maestros estadounidense.  Por eso es que, hasta el día de hoy, todavía los estudiantes puertorriqueños llaman a sus maestros “Mister” o “Misses”. Se nos enseñó la historia de EEUU, y se nos escondió la nuestra.  Pregúntale a un puertorriqueño quién es el General Antonio Valero de Bernabé, a ver como te contesta. El fue el general más importante de Simon Bolívar en su liberación de America del imperialismo español.  Valero nació en Fajardo Puerto Rico.  Este sábado 27 de octubre al lado de su estatua ecuestre (la única en PR) en Fajardo, se celebrará su natalicio a las 9AM.  ¡El publico esta cordialmente invitado!  Por nuestra falta de una consciencia colectiva sobre nuestra historia para poder entender de donde venimos, es que estamos tan divididos en cuanto a, ¿donde nos debemos dirigir?  Y para corregir eso, hay que todo puertorriqueño estudiar su historia para poder su culto y merecedor  de ser libre.

La otra razón por nuestra división se debe al terrorismo del estado empleado por EEUU para disuadirnos de nuestra luchar por independencia.  Algunos ejemplos de esto son:

·         La Masacre de Río Piedras, Utuado y Ponce   

·         Los asesinatos del Cerro Maravilla y Filiberto Ojeda Ríos  

·         Mantener al prisionero político Oscar López Rivera por 31 años (¡El prisionero político con más años en prisión en todo el mundo!) por querer la liberación de PR. Esto esta en total contradicción de las expresiones de la Secretaria de Estado Hilary Clinton al mundo, de que, “Un prisionero político donde quiera es uno prisionero político demasiado”

·         El programa de contrainteligencia del FBI (COINTELPRO) para intervenir en cualquier asunto que favorece la independencia para PR. Para mas información, Lea el libro, The COINTELPRO Papers, capitulo 4.

¡Es pura mentira cuanto un funcionario de EEUU dice que EEUU esta dispuesto a darnos cualquier estatus político que queramos!  Los que no conocemos nuestra historia pensaran, “Que justo es el gobierno de EEUU.”  Los que conocimos nuestra historia sabemos sin temor a equivocarnos que, al contrario, EEUU ha tratado de hacer todo lo posible para hacer desaparecer nuestra cultura puertorriqueña y, a su vez, apagar cualquier intento por lograr la independencia de PR.

Por lo tanto, estas elecciones del 6 de noviembre no representan una salida a nuestros problemas fundamentales de Puerto Rico.  No lo son porque todos nuestros problemas emanan del hecho de que los puertorriqueños no mandamos en nuestra casa.  Y mientras eso siga así, nunca vamos a poder mejorar nuestra situación.

¡Yo le exhorto a todo puertorriqueño que estudiemos nuestra verdadera historia, y que boicoteemos las elecciones y plebiscitos en PR!  Usemos las resoluciones ya aprobadas de las Naciones Unidas para descolonizarnos sin importarnos lo que diga EEUU.  Nosotros somos los que tenemos el derecho internacional de nuestra autodeterminación e independencia.  Debe ya ser obvio que lo único que quiere EEUU es seguir explotándonos para siempre.  Y si nos desaparecemos como los Tainos por causa de esa explotación, mejor para EEUU.  Después de todo, como nos dijo Pedro Albizu Campos, “Lo que le interesa a EEUU es la jaula, y no los pájaros.”  ¿Qué les paso a los Americanos Nativo?  Y si no estamos de acuerdo con su propósito con nosotros, y si ya sabemos que realmente no cree en la justicia para todos, ¿Para qué seguir colaborando con EEUU?

On Sunday, October 21, 2012, a protest against the present governor of Puerto Rico (PR) was held called, “Forbidden to Forget”.  The goal was to remind voters of all the bad things Governor Luis Fortuño has done during these last four years, so that they won’t vote for him.  I believe, our memory should go further back than that!

Our problem began with the military invasion of the United States (US) in 1898.  Since then, we have been a colony (one of four) of the US.  PR is the oldest colony in the world, and has the most population than the rest of the other 16 colonies still remaining.  Colonies are obtained for the sole purpose of exploitation.  The disastrous situation we have today is the result of 114 years of US exploitation.  This is what we ought to be forbidden to forget!

But, what do we do?  We play the game that the US would like us to play to keep us a colony forever!  We engage at an 85% electoral participation level in this so called “democracy”.  But, how could there be democracy within a colony?  If we believe it is possible, what does this tell you?  It shows that Puerto Ricans do not know our history?  José Marti said that in order for a People to be free, first it must be cultured.

The US understood José Marti very well!  The first thing she did was begin to teach in English with US teachers.  This is why children still today call their teachers “Mister” or “Misses”.  We were taught US history, and we were hidden our real Puerto Rican history.  Ask any Puerto Rican who is General Antonio Valero de Bernabé to see what his response will be.  He was only Simon Bolivar’s most important general during his liberations of the America from Spanish imperialism.  He was born in Fajardo Puerto Rico.  This October 27, 2012, we will be celebrating his birthday next to his equestrian statue in Fajardo at 9AM.  The public is cordially invited!  As a result of our not having a collective conscious is that we are so divided as to where we ought to be heading.  The only way to correct this is by every Puerto Rican learning his real history, so that we can be cultured and thus worthy of being free.

The other reason for our division is because of the state terrorism by the US to dissuade us from seeking independence for PR.  Some examples of these are:

·         The masacres of  Río Piedras, Utuado y Ponce  

·         The assassinations at Cerro Maravilla and the murder of Filiberto Ojeda Ríos  

·         Maintaining in prison for 31 years the political prisoner Oscar López Rivera (the longest held political prisoner in the world!) for wanting PR to be free.  This action is in total contradiction to Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s expression to the world that, “One political prisoner is one too many.”

·         The FBI’s counterintelligence program (COINTELPRO) to intervene with any activity that favors Puerto Rico independence.  For more information, read, “The COINTELPRO Paper, Chapter 4.

It is an outright lie for any US official to say that the US is willing to grant PR whatever political status she wants.  Those of us who don’t know our history will think, “What a   fair thing for the US to do!”  Those of us who do know our history know without the fear of being wrong that, the US, on the contrary, has done all she could to make our culture disappear, and in that way avoid PR from ever reaching her independence.  

 

That’s why; these upcoming elections are meaningless in solving our fundamental problems.  They are because our fundamental problem is that we have no control in our own house!  And as long as this is so, we will never be able to correct our problems!

I encourage all Puerto Ricans to study our real history and to boycott the PR elections and plebiscite.  We should use the United Nations (UN) resolutions already in existence to decolonize ourselves without caring what the US has to say.  We are the ones who have the international right to our self-determination and independence.  It should be obvious by now that the US wants to exploit us forever.  And, should we disappear like the Tainos from this eternal exploitation, better for the US!  After all, that’s what Pedro Albizu Campos warned us about.  He said, “What the US is interested in is the cage, and not the birds.”  What happened to the Native North Americans?  And if we are not in agreement with her plan for us, and if we already know that she really doesn’t believe in justice for all, why continue to collaborate with the US?
