Does the US respect democracy?

The United States Government (USG) militarily invaded Puerto Rico in 1898. At that time, Puerto Rico had already acquired self-government from Spain in 1897. The USG could not have cared less that the Puerto Ricans had finally achieved a government of, by and for the Puerto Ricans.

International law gives people living under colonialism the right to use whatever means necessary to decolonize their homeland.

Puerto Rican nationalists killed the chief of police, Francis Riggs, in 1936. The 2 young nationalists responsible with his assignation were murdered by the police at the police station. The Ponce Massacre would soon follow that. United States (US) Senator Millard Tydings, a personal friend of the assassinated chief of police, decided to teach Puerto Ricans a lesson.

Tydings introduced a bill in 1936 to give Puerto Ricans their independence, if they want it. The fact that Tydings said, “If Puerto Ricans want it” shows the USG's disrespect for democracy! Tydings designed a bill so disadvantageous for Puerto Ricans that they would never vote for it!

Tydings’ bill was an effort to distract attention from the real issue. The question is not whether Puerto Ricans want their independence. That was already obvious, since Puerto Ricans already had their sovereignty when the USG invaded Puerto Rico. The real issue is that the USG is committing a crime against humanity by keeping Puerto Rico as its colony! Thus, voting is not the solution!

Puerto Rico is the oldest and the most populated colony in the world! The USG is presently in violation of the United Nations’ (UN) Charter that prohibited colonialism since 1945. Moreover, the USG has ignored 38 UN resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. http://webtv.un.org/watch/5th-meeting-committee-of-24-special-committee-on-decolonization/6051725003001/

It is incumbent on the almost 9 million Puerto Ricans worldwide to engage in permanent resistance to force the USG to comply with international law. We must, because those who disrespect democracy, don’t believe in LIBERTY AND IN JUSTICE FOR ALL! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1697349163904877/

USA respects only capitalism!
