Birmingham Alabama
exemplified racism in the United States (US). Despite the defeat of the
Confederacy in the US Civil War, and the Emancipation Proclamation, the South
was determined to never allow Blacks to be equal to Whites. Bull Connor,
through his all-out effort to keep Blacks in their place, helped the US
government (USG) to enact laws prohibiting racial discrimination. Click on the

President John
Kennedy could have done what he eventually did, without Blacks engaging in
permanent resistance in Birmingham. But, it was the permanent resistance, and
Bull Connor’s response to it that forced him to act.
We should never
expect injustice to go away on its own. The people who suffer the injustice
must take the lead, and confront it intelligently. Good people will eventually
join in, when they come to understand what Martin Luther King Jr. meant when he
said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” An excellent
example of that was the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the US Capitol.
Puerto
Ricans have been waiting for the past 123 years for the USG to decolonize
Puerto Rico on its own.
We ought to
know by now that that will never happen, because the USG has willfully refused to
comply with the United Nations’ (UN) Charter of 1945 that prohibits
colonialism.
We ought to
know by now that that will never happen, because the USG has ignored, thus far,
39 UN resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to
the Puerto Ricans. http://webtv.un.org/watch/5th-meeting-committee-of-24-special-committee-on-decolonization/6051725003001/
When will
Puerto Ricans confront colonialism intelligently? We already have more Puerto
Ricans living away from our national territory!
Do your part
to confront evil.
