Decolonizing America

America was colonized by European nations after 1492.

After the 13 English colonies gained their independence in 1776, United States (US) President Monroe, in 1823, declared to the Europeans that the US would no longer accept new colonization in America. 75 years later, the US herself would become an imperial power.

Puerto Rico has been a US colony for the past 123 years, in violation to the United Nations’ (UN) Charter of 1945, and 39 UN resolutions asking the US to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. http://webtv.un.org/watch/5th-meeting-committee-of-24-special-committee-on-decolonization/6051725003001
