Why was NATO not disbanded?

The NATO was not disbanded, after the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The US, instead, expanded the NATO towards the Russian Federation, despite assuring her that that would not happen.

The US is today threatening the world with nuclear war, by insisting that the US must defeat Russia in the battlefield in Ukraine. Since that is impossible, the world is now 90 seconds away from annihilation, according to the Atomic Scientists. And according to Gallup polls, the world considers the US, and not Russia, as the biggest threat to peace.
