¿Quién es del embeleco eleccionario puertorriqueño? / Who has smoking mirrors in the Puerto Rican elections?

We recently had a debate between the candidates running for governor of Puerto Rico.  The Popular Democratic Party (PDP) candidate accused the New Progressive Party (NPP) candidate of using the Status Plebiscite as smoking mirrors to hide his disastrous performance record as governor in the last 4 years.

The Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) candidate said that the biggest smoking mirror is our present political status.  It is neither a state, nor free, nor associated, yet it is called the “Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico”.  The United States (US) Supreme Court said that Puerto Rico belongs to, but is not a part of the US.  On what moral grounds can the PDP accuse the NPP of smoking mirrors?

The fact of the matter is that both principal Puerto Rican parties have elaborate systems of smoking mirrors to keep us ignorant and divided as a people.  That’s why; the only thing that makes sense is to boycott the elections and plebiscite.  The new Workers Party candidate seems to understand my proposal.

He was the only one out of the six candidates that dared say this in the debate.  Although the slogan of the debate was, “Vote, or shut up!” he said he knew that some voter will decide not to vote.  To those, he encouraged them to get involved in whatever way they believed would help Puerto Rico get out of the mess she is in.  To me, this was the biggest truth that was said in the entire debate!

Why waste your vote, if you can’t resolve the main problem that we have as a people.  The colonial relationship that we have had for 114 years is our principal problem that we must overcome.  All we have to do to fix it is to ask the United Nations (UN) to decolonize us.  The UN is the one that has the jurisdiction to do so.  But, as long as we continue to validate the wrong mechanism through our votes, the UN will not intervene on its own.

Say no to the smoking mirrors, and say yes to the real decolonization process!

Don’t vote for smoking mirrors, boycott them!

United States’ contradictions of actions and words

Beyond Vietnam - Martin Luther King, Riverside Church, NYC, 4 Apr 1967

Dr. Martin Luther King spoke about the War in Vietnam.  Press on the above link to read what he said at a New York City church.  He was painfully detailed in the United States (US) government’s contradictions of what it does, and the ideals it says it represents.

Was the US policy so much different than what led her in 1898 to acquire colonies of her own?  Is her policy so different today in her decision to intervene militarily around the world?  Do the people consider enemies of the US have justifiable reasons to hate her, or are their hate irrational?

To the question, “Do we now have a democracy?” Benjamin Franklyn answered, “Yes, if we are able to keep it!”

The fact that 99% of the wealth in the US is controlled by a small group of people, you have to wonder if we were not able to keep the democratic republic.  Surely, 99% of US citizens can’t be voting to live in as much poverty as possible!  So why is democracy not working for the majority of us?

This speech, as well as the present conditions of the US, makes it clear that the people of the US have lost our democratic form of government.

It is time to, as Dr. King said, “…save the soul of America.”  He also said that, “A time comes when silence is betrayal.”  It is time to use civil disobedience to make our government do what is right for the majority of mankind.

Respect is something that we must earn by what we do.  Democracy isn’t want a government does.  It is want citizens do!

The picture for this post is from Dr. King's last speech in Memphis a year later.

Puerto Rico aprende su historia de Estado Unidos / Puerto Rico learns her history from the United States

What’s wrong with that?  I’ll explain.

Yesterday, I went to see the site of the first Spanish settlement in Puerto Rico (1508).  Juan Ponce de Leon was charged with that task.  He decided on this site (called Villa de Caparra) because of the abundance of water wells and the closeness of gold mines.

Mr. Victor A. Martinez gave me an excellent orientation of what the museum has on display.  He asked me to promote the “Ruinas de Caparra” historical park and museum so that more people could visit and learn about our past.  His number is 787-781-4795.

One of the many interesting things that I learned was how this historic site almost got completely erased from our past.

During an archeological exploration in 1935, Adolfo de Hostos discovered the site and some related artifacts.  This site was precisely under the projected trajectory plan for the construction of State Road 2.  Although a plan was designed so that the road would go around the site, finally it was decided to follow the original plan.  So, two thirds of the original Villa de Caparra Settlement is currently under Puerto Rico Road 2.  I didn’t know that!  Did you?

What total disregard for a country’s history!  No other sovereign country in the world would have allowed that to happen.  In 1935, governors of Puerto Rico were still being appointed by the President of the United States (US).  So that decision was made by the US government.

Ricardo Alegria, who founded the “Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña”, managed to establish the site that we can visit today.

Whenever you learn your own national history from another nation, you will get the information that that nation wants you to have.  At best, you will get about 1/3 of truth and 2/3 of the kind of propaganda to maintain the desired conditions.

It’s up to all of us to say, “Show me the facts”.  And if you don’t get them, you have to go out and search for them!  Once we have the truth, it will be so much easier for all of us to decide our future.

A call to decolonize North America!

Decolonization Referendum Petition - Ditch the Holy SEE, The Monarchy -Take Back Our GOVTS - YouTube

Press the above link to see a very interesting video about how few people have greatly benefitted at the expense of the 99% of us.  Thus, a call is being made to decolonize North America.

Therefore, Puerto Rico’s colonialism is tied up in a larger degree of colonialism.  In either case, they are motivated by greed, and perpetuated by those in power manipulating us through lies.  That is how the few can continue their life of luxury at the expense of our ignorance.  Only through our knowledge of history can we see the bigger picture, and know what we must do.  Democracy isn't what governments do.  It is what citizens do!

A new documentary about 114 years of Puerto Rico Colonialism

A Puerto Rican filmmaker has embarked in making a documentary about, to say it his way, “Puerto Rico’s unique relationship with the United States”.  It will only get made if he could raise the money for this project by a certain deadline.

I am hopeful that this documentary could educate us on our history, so that Puerto Ricans at home and abroad will be better able to decide what is best for our collective future!  Please consider supporting financially this documentary’s search for the truth!
