Puerto Rico aprende su historia de Estado Unidos / Puerto Rico learns her history from the United States

What’s wrong with that?  I’ll explain.

Yesterday, I went to see the site of the first Spanish settlement in Puerto Rico (1508).  Juan Ponce de Leon was charged with that task.  He decided on this site (called Villa de Caparra) because of the abundance of water wells and the closeness of gold mines.

Mr. Victor A. Martinez gave me an excellent orientation of what the museum has on display.  He asked me to promote the “Ruinas de Caparra” historical park and museum so that more people could visit and learn about our past.  His number is 787-781-4795.

One of the many interesting things that I learned was how this historic site almost got completely erased from our past.

During an archeological exploration in 1935, Adolfo de Hostos discovered the site and some related artifacts.  This site was precisely under the projected trajectory plan for the construction of State Road 2.  Although a plan was designed so that the road would go around the site, finally it was decided to follow the original plan.  So, two thirds of the original Villa de Caparra Settlement is currently under Puerto Rico Road 2.  I didn’t know that!  Did you?

What total disregard for a country’s history!  No other sovereign country in the world would have allowed that to happen.  In 1935, governors of Puerto Rico were still being appointed by the President of the United States (US).  So that decision was made by the US government.

Ricardo Alegria, who founded the “Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña”, managed to establish the site that we can visit today.

Whenever you learn your own national history from another nation, you will get the information that that nation wants you to have.  At best, you will get about 1/3 of truth and 2/3 of the kind of propaganda to maintain the desired conditions.

It’s up to all of us to say, “Show me the facts”.  And if you don’t get them, you have to go out and search for them!  Once we have the truth, it will be so much easier for all of us to decide our future.

A call to decolonize North America!

Decolonization Referendum Petition - Ditch the Holy SEE, The Monarchy -Take Back Our GOVTS - YouTube

Press the above link to see a very interesting video about how few people have greatly benefitted at the expense of the 99% of us.  Thus, a call is being made to decolonize North America.

Therefore, Puerto Rico’s colonialism is tied up in a larger degree of colonialism.  In either case, they are motivated by greed, and perpetuated by those in power manipulating us through lies.  That is how the few can continue their life of luxury at the expense of our ignorance.  Only through our knowledge of history can we see the bigger picture, and know what we must do.  Democracy isn't what governments do.  It is what citizens do!

A new documentary about 114 years of Puerto Rico Colonialism

A Puerto Rican filmmaker has embarked in making a documentary about, to say it his way, “Puerto Rico’s unique relationship with the United States”.  It will only get made if he could raise the money for this project by a certain deadline.

I am hopeful that this documentary could educate us on our history, so that Puerto Ricans at home and abroad will be better able to decide what is best for our collective future!  Please consider supporting financially this documentary’s search for the truth!

Así es como Puerto Rico se mantiene en el coloniaje / This is how Puerto Rico is maintained a colony

Obama on Puerto Rican Status: Congress Won't Act Until There is a Clear Message from PR - YouTube

Here is a video of President Obama talking about the November 6, 2012 Puerto Rico (PR) status plebiscite.  He seems reasonable, but it is obvious that he does not know our history.

It is important to mention that the United States (US) did not celebrate a referendum to make PR her colony in 1898.  That was accomplished via a military invasion where people died!  Now in 2012, a plebiscite is needed so that Congress could change our colonial status.

The President says that if we are divided, the Congress will not change the status quo.  He says it as if he is oblivious to the fact that it was the Government of the US that has divided us through the FBI’s counterintelligence program called COINTELPRO.  Now, since many don’t know our history, he says it like our division is by pure coincidence!

The President, as a lawyer, has to know that Congress does not have jurisdiction over Puerto Rico’s decolonization since 1960.  The United Nations (UN) has the jurisdiction.  As long as the President continues to say things that aren’t true, he becomes part of the problem.  At no time did the Latina reporter refuted the lies that the President was saying.  I don’t know whether she didn’t because she was afraid, or because she also doesn’t know our history!

This is why we have to protest at the UN to demand PR’s decolonization the right way!  Please join us!

We can’t decide Puerto Rico’s future without having the right information!

The Last Colony Kickstarter Campaign with an introduction from the director Juan Agustín Márquez - YouTube

Here is a video (press the link above to see it) about the upcoming plebiscite on the status of Puerto Rico.  Despite having to first learn our real history before being able to make an intelligent choice, plebiscites are designed to keep us as a colony.  But this, of course, is criminal!

In a recent psychological study about the effects of colonialism, one of the findings was that, due to the exploitation that results in low income for Puerto Ricans, this produces a lot of the negative social statistics associated with us as a people.

Due to the United State’s conflict of interest concerning our decolonization, it is imperative that the United Nations manage the process.

Join the protest this June 17, 2013!

“US support any decision the people of Puerto Rico make.”

Oprima debajo para leerlo. / Press below to read it.
FBI — Puerto Rican Groups

This is the standard line that any United States official will make in reference to the ultimate political status of Puerto Rico (PR).  It sounds so reasonable and democratic!  But has the US government acted according to what it says?

The US encouraged the PR legislature to create Law 53 on June 10th, 1948.  It became known as, “La Ley de la Mordaza” (The Gag Law).  Its purpose was to keep people from advocating for the independence of Puerto Rico.  You can get more details about this law from Ivonne Acosta’s book called, La Mordaza (1998).  This law gave the government the right to throw you in jail for merely possessing a Puerto Rican flag.

Then there was the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) secret war against the independence of PR.  The attached link above will take you to the actual FBI documents about how it did whatever it had to do to dissuade Puerto Ricans from wanting independence for PR.

Reading these documents will remind readers of a scene in the movie The God Father.  Michael’s wife tries to convince him to stop being naïve to the lying, corruption and killing involvement in organized crime.  Michael replies, “That’s the same thing the government does.”  She refuses to believe him.  He then says, “Now, who’s being naïve?”  You can read about this too in the book The COINTELPRO Papers by Ward Churchill and Jim Vander Wall (1990).  Chapter 4 is on PR.

United Nations’ (UN) Resolution 1514 (XV) gives all nations the right to fight for their independence using whatever means possible.  Therefore, it is the US that is violating international law by interfering with PR's right to self-determination and independence.

Despite what the US government says, its historical actions prove the opposite.  This is why any decolonization process whereby the US has control over is equally as deceptive as its standard line.  This is why we need to boycott the PR elections (which are a lie about having a democracy) and have the UN manage the decolonization process.  Please join the protest and help make it happen!
