The following is a letter I sent today to the ambassador of South Africa. I invite others to write a letter to an ambassador asking him or her to say something at next month’s UN general assembly about the immediate decolonization of Puerto Rico. If you are able to follow it up with a visit, that would be great. Thank you!

Dear Ambassador:

Greetings from Puerto Rico!

Our goal is Puerto Rico decolonization. The United Nations (UN) has asked the United States government in 36 resolutions to give Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. Thus far, it has ignored them. Therefore, Puerto Ricans are denied the same self-determination and independence enjoyed by all of the member nations of the UN.

Our committee asks if you would make a statement in next month’s general assembly regarding the immediate decolonization of Puerto Rico. The UN is in its third decade trying to eradicate colonialism, and the decade is quickly evaporating.

Puerto Rico is the oldest colony in the world. Dr. King said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” This threat to peace should be of the utmost concern to the UN. Puerto Rico has been a US colony for 120 years.

We will continue to fight for Puerto Rico decolonization with Oscar Lopez Rivera as our Nelson Mandela. We are asking all people, who believe that peace will only come when all people are free, to help us get there. We need a lot of help, because those who commit crimes against humanity, don’t believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL!

Thank you for anything that you could do to advance our struggle (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1697349163904877/).

Sincerely,
Jose M. Lopez
