The United
Nations’ (UN) Decolonization Committee (C-24) has postponed this year’s Puerto
Rico decolonization hearing scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2020, due to the coronavirus
pandemic.
Puerto Rico
has been a United States (US) colony for the past 121 years. The US government
(USG) is committing a crime against humanity by refusing to comply with the UN's Charter that prohibits colonialism, and by ignoring 38 UN resolutions asking it to
immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans.
This year, the
UN concludes its Third International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism.
The UN Secretary General mentioned that in his yearly address to the C-24 in
February, 2020. The Secretary General did not mention at all the oldest and
most populated colony in the world. Click on the following link to hear the Secretary
General’s address: http://webtv.un.org/watch/player/6134633184001
After Puerto Rico’s insurrection on October 30, 1950, the USG wanted to camouflage
its Puerto Rico colony. It decided to call it, “The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico”
in 1952. Then in 1953, the USG asked the UN to remove Puerto Rico from its list, and
the UN did. The UN recognizes today that the USG lied, but it has refused to put her back on the list.
It appears
from what the Secretary General said in the video that the UN will be dedicating a
fourth International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism. The problem
with that is, if you always do what you have always done, you will always get
what you have always got. The UN needs to get more aggressive with the USG.
For example,
the UN has not wanted to broadcast live the annual Puerto Rico decolonization
hearing. That does not help to push the USG to decolonize Puerto Rico. Click on
the following link to watch our own broadcast of the 2016 hearing, after we
asked to the UN to broadcast it and refused: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzBslJLbI0
The UN has
not wanted to publicize in the media these annual hearings. Most people are not
aware that they occur, especially in New York City where there is a huge
concentration of Puerto Rican!
We need to
decolonize our minds, before we could decolonize Puerto Rico. We do, because
those who colonize have never wanted LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL! https://todosunidosdescolonizarpr.blogspot.com/
Puerto Rico
decolonization matters.
