I think that
the real discussion should begin with, how did Puerto Rico become a United
States (US) territory?
Puerto Rico
is a US colony. The term “territory” is to mask the fact that the US government
(USG) militarily invaded Puerto Rico 123 years ago to make her its colony. If
the 4 women of The Real knew that history, they would not have said what they
did. Click on the following link to watch that video: https://youtu.be/janLyUPllJ4
Puerto
Ricans do not have to vote to determine our political future. We had our own
government in 1898 when the USG invaded us. And since, for the past 76 years,
the United Nations’ Charter prohibits colonialism, because it is a crime
against humanity, the USG is the one that needs to comply with 40 UN
resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the
Puerto Ricans. Once Puerto Ricans have been made whole, we will decide what to
do. And if we should want statehood, we could do that too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzBslJLbI0
If people
don’t know their history, they will get wrapped-up in a discourse that bears no
connection to the real solution of the problem. The Problem for Puerto Ricans
is that the USG has always wanted Puerto Rico as its colony!
One of the
woman said that she would like Puerto Rico to become a state, because it would
be the first state of people of color. The USG classified Puerto Ricans as
belonging to an inferior race. That is why, in the Treaty of Paris of 1898, the
USG insisted that it stated that the rights of Puerto Ricans shall be
determined by the USG. As long as Puerto Ricans make up a majority of people in
Puerto Rico, she will never become a state of the Union! https://todosunidosdescolonizarpr.blogspot.com/
Since the
USG will never change the status quo, the 9 million Boricuas worldwide should engage
in permanent resistance to force the USG to comply with international law. That
would be more democratic than those phony bills in Congress.
Let’s get
real!
