From skyscrapers to tents

The transfer of wealth from the 99% of United States (US) citizens to the 1% is responsible for that. But how could the US, a nation that claims to be the champion of democracy, allow this to happen?

The US has never been a democracy. In the 1990's, the US allowed oligarchs to move industry abroad, so that they could avoid paying decent salaries to their citizens. That was how the rich got richer, and the rest of us got poorer.

Today, almost 40 million Americans live in poverty, and another 201 million more live from paycheck to paycheck, while, at the same time, 9 of the 10 richest men in the world are also Americans.

Moreover, the US has consistently ignored 43 United Nations' resolutions demanding the immediate return of Puerto Rico's sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. In the meantime, 6 million Puerto Ricans have abandoned their national territory, and half of the 3 million people in Puerto Rico live in poverty too. 

The People's Republic of China, on the other hand, and a nation that the US claims to be authoritarian, eradicated poverty in 2020, despite having 11 trillion dollars less GDP than the US, and having 4 times the US' population. Over 90% of Chinese are satisfied with their government, while only 35% of Americans are satisfied with theirs.

America is the home of imperialism.
