Aparece por casi todos lados que Estados Unidos (EEUU) le  concedió a los puertorriqueños su ciudadanía.  Aquí en este enlace esta unos de los pocos sitios donde dice la verdad.  EEUU nos impuso su ciudadanía a pesar de que nuestra asamblea de delegados puertorriqueños la rechazaron. 

España ya se había rendido antes de la invasión de tropas americanas el 25 de julio de 1898.  EEUU bombardeó al Fuerte El Morro sin aviso previo, como era el protocolo.  El Dr. José Celso Barbosa y otros arriesgaron sus vidas para cruzando en lancha desde Cataño para atender a los heridos allí.   

EEUU obligó a España a cederle a Puerto Rico ilegalmente.  Ya Puerto Rico gozaba de una autonomía bajo la Carta Autonómica de 1897.  España en ese instante no podía cederle a PR a EEUU, y así se lo manifestó.  De todas maneras, EEUU insistió la concesión de PR a sabiendas de que dicha petición era ilegal. 

Ya Simon Bolívar conocía del interés de EEUU, Inglaterra, Francia y México sobre Cuba y Puerto Rico.  Por eso no pudo terminar la liberación de todas las colonias que España tenia en America.  Bolívar entendía que para poder liberar a Cuba y Puerto Rico,  él necesitaría y respaldo político y económico de Inglaterra.  Por su interés de hacerlas colonias de Inglaterra, él sabia que no iba ser posible.

It says almost everywhere that the United States (US) granted Puerto Ricans her citizenship.  This link is one of the few places where I found the truth.  The US imposed her citizenship on Puerto Ricans despite the rejection of the Puerto Rican Assembly of Delegates.  

Spain had already surrendered before the US military invasion of July 25, 1898.  The US bombarded the "El Morro" fort without the required warning.  Dr. José Celso Barbosa and others risked their lives crossing from Cataño by boat to help the wounded there. 

The US forced Spain to give PR up illegally.  PR already had obtained autonomy from Spain through “La Carta Autonómica of 1897”.  At that time, Spain did not have the right to give PR away, and Spain told her so.  But the US insisted, regardless of the legal impediment.

Simon Bolívar already knew about the interest of the US, England, France and Mexico in Cuba and Puerto Rico.  That’s why he could no finish liberating all of the Spanish colonies in America.  He knew that to do so, he would need England’s political and economic support.  Bolivar would not have that as long as England wanted these islands for herself!
