Referéndum sobre estatus en Puerto Rico es ilegal e innecesario / Puerto Rico status plebiscite is illegal and unnecessary

El gobierno de Puerto Rico (PR) se prepara para celebrar otro referéndum sobre el estatus de Puerto Rico (PR) el 6 de noviembre de 2012.  El propósito, como todos los otros, es llevar estos resultados al Congreso de  Estados Unidos para que decida que se hará.  El problema con todos esto es que EEUU quiere mantener a PR como su colonia para siempre por eso somos la colonia más vieja del mundo.

Es importante recordar que fue EEUU que invadió militarmente a PR para colonizarla.  EEUU no esta obligada a tener colonias.  Al contrario, muchas gentes creen que es un contradicción a lo que dice EEUU representar.  Ella las tiene porque las quiere.  Mientras EEUU tanga algo que ver con nuestra descolonización, siempre seguiremos siendo su colonia.  ¡Así esta comprobado por la historia!

Por eso fue que en 1960, la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) aprobó la Resolución 1514 (XV).  Esta resolución le quita a los imperios la jurisdicción sobre la descolonización para ponerla bajo la ley internacional.  Esta resolución le da el derecho inalienable a toda nación a su autodeterminación e independencia.  Por lo tanto, este referéndum es totalmente ilegal e  innecesario. 

Algunas de las gentes que promueven este referéndum lo hacen porque quieren que continuemos siendo colonia.  De hecho, EEUU siempre nos ha recomendado los plebiscitos para resolver el estatus.  Aquí tienes la mejor prueba que el referéndum nunca va a descolonizarnos.

Otras gentes promueven este plebiscito porque le han creído el embuste de EEUU de que la descolonización es un asunto domestico que solo concierne a EEUU y PR.  Si eso fuera cierto, ¿porque la ONU anualmente celebra una vista sobre la descolonización de PR?  ¡EEUU no esta por encima de la ley internacional!  ¿Dónde esta el respecto para la regla de ley que tanto EEUU dice que es lo que la separa del resto del mundo?

La mayoría de los puertorriqueños tenemos que boicotear este referéndum para no ser cómplice de este acto ilegal y contraproducente.

Luego, tenemos que dialogar para buscar un consenso sobre lo que queremos para nuestro país.  Después que tengamos esta decisión hecha, solicitaremos a la ONU que active el proceso de descolonización para PR.

Los puertorriqueños somos los únicos que tenemos el derecho a nuestra autodeterminación e independencia.  ¡EEUU no tiene nada que decir sobre eso!  Al contrario, EEUU es culpable de tener a PR bajo el coloniaje por haberse determinado internacionalmente que el coloniaje es un crimen en contra de la humanidad y construye una amenaza a la paz mundial.  La única razón por la cual EEUU ha tenido a PR bajo el coloniaje por 114 años es por la razón de la fuerza.  ¡Pero esto no es la manera para medir cuán democrático es un país!  ¡Todo lo contrario!  Debemos todos estar convencido que Puerto Rico será descolonizado un día porque tenemos la fuerza de la razón.        

  

The government of Puerto Rico (PR) is preparing for yet another political status plebiscite for November 6, 2012.  The purpose, like all others, is to take the results to the United States (US) Congress to decide what to do.  The problem with this is that the US wants to keep PR her colony forever, and that’s why we are the oldest colony in the world.

It is important to note that the US invaded militarily PR to colonize her.  The US is not obligated to have colonies.  In fact, most people see it as a contradiction to what the US is suppose to stand for.  She has colonies because she wants to.  And as long as EEUU has a say in the decolonization of PR, PR will remain her colony.  This is what history has proven.

That’s why in 1960, the United Nations approved Resolution 1514 (XV).  This resolution took away from empires their jurisdiction concerning decolonization and placed in under international law.  It also gives all nations the inalienable right to her self-determination and independence.  This is why the PR plebiscite is totally illegal and unnecessary.

Some people are promoting this plebiscite because they want PR to continue to be a colony of the US.  In fact, the US has always recommended the use of the plebiscite to solve PR’s status problem.  This is your best evidence that plebiscites will never decolonize PR.

Other people support this referendum because they have believed the US government’s lie that decolonization is a domestic issue that only concerns the US and PR.  If that were so, why does the UN annually hold Puerto Rico decolonization hearings?  The US is not above the law!  Where the respect for the rule of law that the US says makes her different from the rest of the world?

The majority of Puerto Ricans have to boycott this plebiscite so that we are not accomplices to this illegal and counterproductive act.  

Then, we must talk amongst ourselves to decide what we want for Puerto Rico.  After we make that decision, we can ask the UN to begin the decolonization process for PR. 

Puerto Ricans are the only ones who have the right to our self-determination and independence.  The US has no say in this matter!  On the contrary, the US is guilty of having PR as her colony, since the UN’s determination that it is a crime against humanity and a threat to world peace.  The only reason why the US has had PR as her colony for 114 years is by reason of force.  But, great democracies are not measured by that!  Quite the opposite!  We should all be confident that Puerto Rico will decolonize one day because we have the force of reason.
