Cuando los gobiernos no representan los intereses del pueblo, no se le puede creer.  Aquí esta una buena historia corta sobre la lucha para la independencia de Puerto Rico. 

El gobierno se gastó un millón de dólares en anuncios en los medios de comunicaciones para convencernos que votásemos para emendar la “Constitución de Puerto Rico (PR).  El gobierno no permitió que se pautara anuncios para promocionar lo contrario a través de nuevas prohibiciones de este gobierno.  ¡El gobierno no logró su objetivo a pesar de que tenía todos los recursos a su lado!

La ciudadanía astutamente se dio a la tarea de auto educarse para poder tomar la mejor decisión para la mayoría de nosotros.  Pero si no lo hubiera hecho, el gobierno hubiera podido atropellarnos aun más a consecuencia de nuestra ignorancia. 

Igualmente, tenemos que hacer lo mismos para poder descolonizarnos.  Nosotros mismos tenemos que educarnos sobre nuestra verdadera historia.  El gobierno nunca lo hará  porque sabe obviamente que el pueblo estaría en contra de seguir siendo explotado. 

Es importante notar que Puerto Rico por fin obtuvo su soberanía de España en 1897 (Carta Autonómica).  En esta corta historia no lo dice, pero Estados Unido (EEUU) obligó a España a cederle a PR a pesar de que España le había informado que ya no tenía el derecho para hacerlo.  EEUU no le importó el hecho de que PR había luchado por 405 años por adquirir su propia soberanía de España.  Esto no lo dice los libros de historia de EEUU.

Es igualmente importante notar que EEUU se ha enriquecido enormemente de su relación colonial con PR, mientras que las condiciones en Puerto Rico han empeorado sistemáticamente hasta donde estamos hoy.  Por eso es que tenemos por primera vez en nuestra historia más puertorriqueños afuera que dentro de PR.  

La ciudadanía norteamericana fue una imposición de EEUU.  Nuestra  Asamblea de  Delegados de Puerto Rico en 1917 la rechazo.  Esto tampoco te lo dicen para que se piense que estábamos a favor de eso.  Otra vez se beneficia EEUU al poder obligar  a los puertorriqueños para pelear en el ejercito EEUU en la Primera Guerra Mundial.

¿Si esta relación con EEUU es tan buena para los puertorriqueños,  porque Puerto Rico se nos caí encima?  Obviamente, la razón se debe a la explotación continua de nuestros recursos por 114 años.  ¡Por su puesto, pera eso son las colonias!

Entre más estudiemos, más estaremos convencidos que nadie quisiera ser colonia.  Por eso hay solo 17 que todavía quedan en el mundo.  ¡Puerto Rico es la más vieja y la más poblada!

When government does not represent its citizens, you can’t believe what it says.  Here is a short history of the struggle for Puerto Rico independence.

The Puerto Rico (PR) government spent a million dollars in advertisement to convince us to vote for its proposed constitutional amendments.  It did not allow anybody who opposed its view to do the same through prohibitions that this government has installed.  Despite having all of this resource, it lost.

It did because we were able to educate ourselves on the issues, so that we could make the best decision for us.  But, had we not done so, the government would have been able to abuse us even more due to our ignorance.

Similarly, we must do the same thing in order to decolonize ourselves.  We must learn about our real history.  The government will obviously not do that, since it knows that we would not want to continue getting exploited. 

It is important to note that PR had obtained her sovereignty from Spain in 1897 via the Autonomic Charter.  In this short history, it doesn’t say that the United States (US) forced Spain to cede PR to her.  Spain informed the US that she no longer had that right.  The US cared nothing about the 405 years Puerto Rican struggle to gain her sovereignty.  This information you will not get from US history books.

It is also important to note that the US has enormously benefitted from the colonial relationship with PR, while the conditions for Puerto Ricans have systematically deteriorated to the level that we have today.  This is why, for the first time in history, there are more Puerto Rican living outside of Puerto Rican than on the island.

US citizenship was imposed on the Puerto Ricans.  Our Delegates of the PR Assembly refused it in 1917.  This is also not in the US history books.  The US benefitted again by now being able to draft Puerto Rican into her military to fight in World War I. 

If our relationship is so beneficial for PR, why is PR crumbling around us?  Obviously, it is because of the 114 years of exploitation of our resources.  But of course, that’s what colonies are for!

The more we study, the more we will understand that nobody wants to be a colony.  That’s why there are only 17 left in the world.  PR is the oldest and most populated.
