La Primera Protesta Oscar – Mandela en Puerto Rico / The First Oscar – Mandela Protest in Puerto Rico

Tendremos nuestra Primera Protesta Oscar – Mandela para la descolonización de Puerto Rico y la excarcelación de Oscar López Rivera en Puerto Rico.

Decidimos llamarla Oscar – Mandela porque el mundo, después de la muerte de Nelson Mandela, lo está elogiando, y con mucha razón, mientras Oscar López Rivera con 32 años en la cárcel por luchar por la descolonización de Puerto Rico esta invisible ante el mundo. 

La Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) está en su tercera década tratando de erradicar el colonialismo en el mundo.  Por tal razón,  la ONU celebra una vista anual sobre la descolonización de Puerto Rico.  La ONU ha emitido 32 resoluciones pidiéndole al gobierno de Estados Unidos a descolonizar inmediatamente a Puerto Rico y específicamente excarcelar a Oscar López Rivera.  En los últimos años, estas resoluciones tienen sobre el 95% de apoyo de los países que componen la ONU.  El gobierno de Estados Unidos, aunque dice que defiende la democracia, ha ignorado estas resoluciones de la comunidad internacional.

El Presidente Obama en su discurso en el memorial de Nelson Mandela dijo que él se pregunta, ¿cuán bien él está aplicando las lecciones que Mandela nos ha enseñado?  No sé cómo él estará contestando esa pregunta, pero para mí, definitivamente no las está aplicando.

El Presidente Obama tiene el poder para excarcelar a Oscar y empezar el proceso de descolonización de Puerto Rico, pero ha decidido, como todos los otros presidentes estadounidenses, mirar para otro lado.  Bajo la ley internacional, Oscar tiene el derecho de usar todos los medos necesarios para descolonizar a su país.  El gobierno de Estados Unidos es el que comete el delito internacional al mantener por 116 años a Puerto Rico como su colonia.  Muchas gentes prominentes y el gobierno colonial de Puerto Rico le han pedido al Presente Obama que excarcele a Oscar.  ¿Cómo puede el Presidente Obama estar aplicando las lecciones de Mandela?

Únete a la Primera Protesta Pacífica Oscar – Mandela el sábado 22 de marzo de 2014 en el Día de la Abolición de la Esclavitud en Puerto Rico.  Escogimos este día porque el colonialismo es una forma de tener en la esclavitud a un pueblo. Marcharemos a las 2 PM desde la Estación Avenida Roosevelt del Tren Urbano hasta el tribunal en la Calle Chardón de Hato Rey.  Las personas que pertenecen a otros grupos pueden llevar sus banderas y pancartas.  Queremos que esta protesta sea de todos los que creemos que el colonialismo es un crimen en contra de la humanidad y una amenaza a la paz mundial.

¡Y recuerde, los que practican o aceptan el colonialismo no creen en la justicia para todos!

 

We will have the first Oscar – Mandela Peaceful Protest for the decolonization of Puerto Rico and the release of Oscar López Rivera in Puerto Rico.

We have decided to call it Oscar – Mandela because the world is praising, and rightly so, Nelson Mandela’s contribution to helping end the human rights abuses in South Africa, while Oscar López Rivera’s 32 years of incarceration for the decolonization of Puerto Rico is virtually invisible to the world. 

The United Nations (UN) is in its third decade trying to eradicate colonialism in the world because it has declared it a crime against humanity due to its threat to world peace.  The United States (US) government has thus far ignored 32 United Nations resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico.  Meanwhile, President Obama, in his speech at Mandela's memorial said that he asks himself everyday how well he is applying the lessons that Nelson Mandela has taught the world.  I don’t know how he is answering this question, but for me, he is definitely not applying them!

President Obama has the power to release from prison Oscar López Rivera and begin the decolonization of Puerto Rico, but he has decided, like other US presidents, to look the other way.  Under international law, Oscar has a right to use whatever means necessary to decolonize his country.  It is the United States government that commits an international crime by having Puerto Rico as its colony for 116 years.  Over 95% of the nations represented in the United Nations have asked the United States to decolonize Puerto Rico and free, specifically, Oscar López Rivera .  Many prominent people and the colonial government of Puerto Rico have also petitioned the United States to free Oscar.  But, President Obama, just like the government of the United States has done for 116 years, refuses to acknowledge and correct the crime that it commits against the People of Puerto Rico.  How could President Obama be applying Mandela’s lessons when he does nothing in support of Oscar who is doing exactly what Nelson Mandela did?

Join us on Saturday, March 22, 2014 to peacefully protest for the decolonization of Puerto Rico and the release from prison of Oscar López Rivera.  On this day, Puerto Rico celebrates the Abolition of Slavery.  We decided on this day, because colonialism is a form of enslaving a country.  We will march from the Roosevelt Avenue Urban Train Station at 2 PM to the United States Court on Chardón Street in Hato Rey.  If you belong to any particular group, feel free to bring your flags and signs to the protest.  We want it to be a collective effort involving everyone who believes that colonialism is a crime against humanity and a threat to world peace!  

And remember, those who practice or accept colonialism, don’t believe in justice for all!
