Recientemente, Estados Unidos celebró 239 años de su independencia. ¿Quién podría estar en contra de eso?
Pero si preguntamos, ¿Quién está en contra de la independencia para
Puerto Rico?, Estados Unidos lo está.
Empezamos desde el principio.
Antes que Estados Unidos se formara como país, los colonos ingleses por
poco se mueren si no hubiese sido por los Nativos Americanos que le ensenaron
como cultivar alimentos allí. ¿Cómo le
pagaron por esta gestión de solidaridad al prójimo? Los mataron o los ubicaron
en campos de concentración que le llamaron creativamente, reservaciones.
Cuando los colonos ingleses descubrieron las islas caribeñas, ellos le
informaron a Inglaterra que las debieran conquistar.
Cuando Simón Bolívar le pidió el apoyo de Estados Unidos para liberar las últimas 2 colonias que quedaban
en América, le contestó que no. Estados
Unidos quería que Cuba y Puerto Rico se quedasen así. Obviamente, Estados Unidos tenía otros planes
para ellas.
En 1897, Puerto Rico había logrado autonomía con España donde las leyes
española solo se aplicarían en Puerto Rico con el consentimiento de los
Puertorriqueños. Estados Unidos invadió
militarmente a Puerto Rico el año después de la Carta Autonómica. Estados Unidos obliga en 1898 que España le
diera a Puerto Rico y así después de 405 años de coloniaje con España,
empezamos lo que ha sido hasta ahora 117 años de coloniaje con el gobierno de
Estados Unidos.
En el 1950, el Partido Nacionalistas se reveló en contra el gobierno de
Estados Unidos. Aunque no fue exitoso,
el gobierno de Estados Unidos decidió en 1952 darle otro nombre a Puerto Rico
que suene como si no fuera una colonia.
Se decidió que se llamaría el Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico
y en inglés, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
El año siguiente, el gobierno de Estados Unidos le pidió a la Organización
de Naciones Unidas (ONU) que remueva a Puerto Rico de su lista de colonias,
porque ya ella había alcanzado gobierno propio. La ONU aceptó su petición en 1953.
4 Nacionalistas puertorriqueños atacaron el Congreso Estadunidense el
año siguiente (1954) para llamar la atención mundial que Puerto Rico seguía
siendo una colonia del gobierno de Estados Unidos.
La ONU declaró en 1960 que el coloniaje es un crimen en contra de la
humanidad porque amenaza a la paz mundial.
La ONU en 34 resoluciones le ha pedido al gobierno de Estados Unidos que
descolonice inmediatamente a Puerto Rico.
¡Todas han sido ignoradas!
¿Cómo es posible que una nación con solo 239 años de historia ha podido
ser la nación más poderosa que el mundo ha conocido? Lo ha logrado quitándole las riquezas de
todas las naciones que se lo han permitido.
¿Sabía usted que de cada dólar que el gobierno de Estado Unidos invierte
en Puerto Rico, el gobierno o sus empresas le saca 14 dólares? ¡Por eso es que ahora hay más puertorriqueños
fuera de nuestro territorio nacional que dentro!
La ONU está en su tercera década tratando de erradicar el colonialismo
del mundo. La historia nos ha ensenado
que el gobierno de Estados Unidos ha provocado conflictos y guerras. Podemos decir sin temor a equivocarnos que el
gobierno de Estados Unidos no le interesa la paz mundial. El hecho de que King dijo, “La injusticia
dondequiera es una amenaza a la justicia de todos nosotros” no es impedimento
para el gobierno de Estados Unidos para continuar creando más injusticia. Precisamente, con esa injusticia es que le ha
permitido ser la nación más poderosa del mundo.
¡Y para el colmo, el gobierno de Estados Unidos se atreve a llamar a
otros terroristas!
But, should we asked, “Who is against the independence of
Puerto Rico?” The United States
government is! Let’s start from the
beginning.
Before the United States became a nation, the English
colonists almost died, had it not been for the Native Americans. They taught them how to farm in America. The English colonists rewarded them by either
killing them or putting them in concentration camps that they creatively called
reservations.
When the English colonists found out about the Caribbean
Islands, they advised England to conquer them.
When Simon Bolivar asked the United States (US) for support
and aid to liberate the last 2 remaining Spanish colonies in America (Cuba and
Puerto Rico), the US said no. The US
government wanted Cuba and Puerto to remain as they were. Obviously, the US government had other plans
for them!
In 1897, Puerto Rico gained autonomy from Spain by virtue of
the Autonomic Charter. Spanish laws
would no longer apply in Puerto Rico unless they were approved by the Puerto
Ricans. The following year in 1898, the
US government declared war on Spain, and forced her to give up Puerto Rico. So after 405 years of being a colony of
Spain, Puerto Rico has now been a colony of the US government for 117 years.
In 1950, the Puerto Rican Nationalists Party revolted
against the US government. Although
unsuccessful, the US government decided to give Puerto Rico a name that would
sound more like if she was not a colony.
In 1952, it decided on the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or in
Spanish, el Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico.
The following year, the US asked the United Nations (UN) to
remove Puerto Rico off its list of colonies, because she had reached
self-government with the new name the US had given her. And, the UN did!
In 1960, the UN declared colonialism a crime against
humanity, because it threatens world peace.
Thus far, the UN has asked the US government 34 times to immediately
decolonize Puerto Rico. They have all
been ignored!
How is it possible for a country like the United States, with
such a short history of 239 years, gets to become the most powerful nation in
the world? It has done so by taking the
wealth away from every nation that has allowed her to. Did you know that for every dollar that the
US invests in Puerto Rico, it gets back 14 dollars? No wonder there are more Puerto Ricans out of
Puerto Rico than in!
The UN is in its third decade trying to eradicate colonialism from the world. History has shown that the US government has provoked conflicts and wars. We can say without a doubt that the US government is not interested in world peace. The fact that King said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” does not dissuade the US government from creating more injustice. It is precisely that injustice which it continues to perpetuate that has permitted the US government to become the most powerful nation in the world. And then, it has the audacity to call others terrorists!
