That was Marine Major General Smedley Butler's purpose in his 1935 book, WAR IS A RACKET, where he warned us about the US government using war to benefit its corporations at the expense of its soldiers' lives.
The result is that almost 40 million Americans today live in poverty, and another 201 million more live from paycheck to paycheck, while 9 of the 10 richest men in the world are also Americans.

6 million Puerto Ricans, or two thirds of the nation, today live away from their national territory, because they have been forced to leave in search of a better life. Almost half of the 3 million people in Puerto Rico live in poverty too. Bad Bunny made reference to the US' colonial relationship with Puerto Rico in his Super Bowl Halftime show, which made President Trump upset!
Half of the Puerto Ricans on the island want Puerto Rico to become another state of the US in order to achieve equality with the citizens on the mainland. Ironically, 90% of them don't have equality, although they vote every 4 years!
Today, the US is trying to colonize the Russian Federation, Venezuela, Cuba, Greenland, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the People's Republic of China. "AMERICA FIRST" and "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN" are euphemisms for the US being the champion of imperialism.
The US' war is on democracy.
