This article
mentioned that half of the United States (US) citizens were unaware that Puerto
Ricans are US citizens too. Why is that? There are things the US government purposefully
hides.
The fact is
that Puerto Rico was governed by Puerto Ricans by virtue of the Autonomic
Charter with Spain of 1897. Did you know that? But the US government militarily
invaded Puerto Rico, because it wanted Puerto Rico as its colony.
The proof is
in the US congressional records of 1898 that nobody studies, except Puerto
Rican historian Dr. Nelson Rochet Santoro. He research revealed that Congress
intentionally legislated specifically for Puerto Rico the Non-incorporated
Territory Act in order to discriminate forever against Puerto Ricans. This
was solely based on Congress’ belief that Puerto Ricans belong to an inferior
race. Click on the following link to hear Dr. Rochet’s explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRHGdhRBG1M&t=5s
The articles
mentioned that Puerto Ricans’ division over what political status is best for
them has made it easy for the US government to do nothing. This is another
example of the US ignorance over Puerto Rico.
The US
government has always persecuted Puerto Ricans who favor independence for Puerto
Rico. Anyone living under colonialism has the right under international law to
use any means necessary to achieve decolonization. Not only is the US
government in violation of the United Nations’ Charter, and 36 UN resolutions
asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans,
it actively promotes animosity among Puerto Ricans through its Federal Bureau
of Investigation (FBI) Counter Intelligence Program (COINTELPRO). So it is not
as innocently as it is portrayed in this article!
The US
government forced its citizenship on Puerto Ricans in 1917. That was another
way to make Puerto Ricans fight among ourselves, by trying to displace our
loyalty to the United States government. Fufi Santori Coll realized in 1993
that Puerto Ricans could never be free as long as we were prevented from having
our own citizenship. He, therefore, lead a drive to obtain our own Boricua
citizenship. Click on the following link to hear Fufi’s story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip1edmZt5bA&t=2021s
