The difference between independence and reformism

Congressman Luis Gutierrez’s intervention in the United States (US) Congress illustrates perfectly, in this video, what the majority of Puerto Rican leaders have done during the past 120 years to try to better the conditions for Puerto Ricans in their national territory. Luis talked as though he were a nationalist advocating for Puerto Rico independence for 80% of this video. Then, suddenly, he made an about face, when he asked Congress to allow Puerto Ricans to be prosperous in their national territory! This is where Luis showed us that he is a reformist.

All Puerto Ricans have been indoctrinated since birth with United States Government (USG) propaganda. Despite the fact that Luis articulated eloquently the history of the problem, then his brainwashing surfaced to recommend an illogical solution.

Luis’ advice to Congress was to allow Puerto Ricans to be prosperous in their homeland. He is unable or doesn’t want to realize that the USG purposely invaded militarily Puerto Rico to exploit her. Therefore, what Luis is asking for is for the USG to do the opposite of that. And, if the Congress were to do as Luis suggested, what would have been the purpose for the USG to have had Puerto Rico as its colony since 1898?

It is also important to highlight that Luis doesn’t make the most convincing argument that an un-colonized person could have made. He did not argue that colonialism is a crime against humanity under international law, and that the USG ought to comply with the United Nations’ (UN) Charter that prohibits colonialism. Nor did he remind Congress that it has ignored 37 UN resolutions asking the USG to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. For Luis, it is like all that never happened! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzBslJLbI0

The best book to learn about how reformism has impeded Puerto Rico independence was written by Juan Antonio Corretjer in 1949. Click here to read it online: https://www.keepandshare.com/doc/6462438/01lucha-por-la-independ-pdf-517k?da=y

My proposal is for every Boricua to engage in permanent resistance to force the USG to comply with the desire of the international community, because those who continue to squeeze Puerto Ricans out of their homeland, don’t believe in LIBERTY AND FOR JUSTICE FOR ALL! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1697349163904877/
