The US has had Puerto Rico as its colony for the past 128 years. On Monday, June 22, 2026, the United Nations (UN) held its annual Puerto Rico decolonization hearing, where it issued the same resolutions as all the rest.
For the 44th time, the UN has demanded that the US immediately return Puerto Rico's sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. Please click on these link to watch the hearing:
6 million Puerto Ricans have left their national territory, that is 2 thirds of the nation (gentrification), and almost half of the 3 million people in Puerto Rico live in poverty. Bad Bunny made reference to Puerto Rico's colonial relationship with the US in his Super Bowl Halftime Show, which is the real reason why President Trump hated it!
Just like the US has ignored the almost unanimous repeated UN resolutions to stop its blockade against Cuba, the US has also consistently ignored the UN's repeated call to decolonize Puerto Rico.
This, of course, is consistent with the US' 250 year history. It is ridiculous for the US to call itself "the champion of democracy", when it established its colonial settler state by committing genocide against the indigenous people of North America!
The US has always served oligarchs, as US Major General Smedly Butler warned us in his 1935 book, WAR IS A RACKET. He explained that the US uses war only to benefit its oligarchs, at the expense of US soldiers dying.
Today, the US is trying to colonize the Russian Federation, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Venezuela, Canada, Greenland, and the People's Republic of China.
The UN has proven incapable of saving the world against US imperialism. Only "We the People" can save ourselves.
People power is the only democracy.
