Puerto Rico’s Resident Commissioner informed US Congress about plebiscite

Click on the above link to read the Resident Commissioner’s address to the United States Congress about the November 6, 2012 Puerto Rico (PR) Political Status Plebiscite.

Congress will do nothing to change the 114 years of colonial rule over PR.  The US has no motivation to change what she established in 1898.  While PR is devastated by this relationship, the US continues to benefit tremendously through the exploitation that is inherent in having a colony.

This plebiscite is a waste of time, because it asks asking the one who wants the colonial relationship to do away with it.  With all the benefits that the US gets out of it, why should she?

This is why international law has jurisdiction over decolonization, and the imperial power does not.  And this is why the June 17, 2013 protest at the United Nations (UN) is so important.  We need to demand that the UN initiate the PR decolonization process immediately.  We cannot continue to wait for the empire to do it, because it is not in her interest to do so.  I hope to be able to meet you there!
