Should President Obama have won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize?

Obviously, President Obama should have never won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009.  This is why.

Oscar López Rivera is a Puerto Rican political prisoner who has spent 31 years in United States (US) custody for fighting for the decolonization of Puerto Rico.

Since 1960, the United Nations (UN) has ruled that colonialism is a crime against humanity, and has asked the US 31 times to decolonize Puerto Rico.  In ten of its last resolutions, the UN has also asked specifically that Oscar Lopez Rivera be freed immediately.   What has the President and 2009 Nobel Peace Prize recipient Obama done?  Nothing!

How could President Obama have won a Nobel Peace Prize, when the US has been committing a crime against humanity since the UN proclaimed it in 1960?

As a lawyer, President Obama is well aware that the US commits an international crime by having Puerto Rico as her colony, and maintaining Oscar illegally in prison for 31 years.  Oscar is the longest held political prisoner in the world!  The US holds this distinction at the same time that she insists that she is the champion of democracy and human rights.

What makes President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize a mockery is the US government’s obvious intentions of maintaining Oscar in prison despite the massive international outcry for his release.  And that could only mean that the US government also intends to continue to keep Puerto Rico as its colony forever!

That is why we need your support to protest the US’ arrogance in defying not only international law, but the human rights that we all have by just being human beings.

Join the protest to decolonize Puerto Rico and free our political prisoners.
