Ahora se reconoce la mentira sobre Puerto Rico que EEUU le dijo a la ONU

Después de la insurrección de los nacionalistas puertorriqueños el 30 de octubre del 1950, el gobierno de Estados Unidos sabía que tenía un problema de su percepción ante el mundo de ser un imperio.  Como Pedro Albizu Campos no se pudo comprar, EEUU usó a Luis Munoz Marin para esconder su relación colonial con Puerto Rico.

En 1952, se formó lo que se llama el Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico.  Los puertorriqueños tuvimos que emendar nuestra constitución redactada por nosotros porque EEUU no le gustó algunas partes.  Y esto es lo que se celebra en Puerto Rico el 25 de julio, el mismo día de la invasión de EEUU en 1898.

En el 1953, EEUU le pidió a la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) que los puertorriqueños habían votado libremente por esta constitución y que ya tenían su gobierno propio.  Por eso es que actualmente, Puerto Rico no esta en la lista de colonias que mantiene la ONU.  Los independentistas puertorriqueños argumentaron en aquel entonces que un pueblo colonizado no puede expresarse libremente, pero lamentablemente, la ONU no le dio la razón.

Por tal razón ocurrió lo que se llama el ataque al congreso de EEUU del 1954.  Los nacionalistas querían atraer la atención del mundo al hecho de que Puerto Rico, aun bajo ese nuevo nombre, todavía seguía siendo una colonia de EEUU.  Uno de los 4 nacionalitas que atacaron el congreso es el autor de este artículo que le presento aquí.  Don Rafael Cancel Miranda representa lo mejor de lo que somos los puertorriqueños.

No me fue posible ir al desfile puertorriqueño durante mi visita reciente a Nueva York  para protestar en las afueras de la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) a favor de la descolonización de Puerto Rico.  Por eso, mi hermana grabó el desfile para que yo lo pudiera ver.  ¡Me alegro mucho que lo hiciera!

Lo más que me impactó de la hora que pude tolerar de ella fue la percepción que Fox presentó de que todo marcha bien en Puerto Rico.  ¡Nada pudiera estar más lejos de la realidad!  

La única puertorriqueña que co-animó la transmisión dijo que por primera vez en la historia  habían más puertorriqueños, 4.2 millones, fuera de Puerto Rico que adentro, 3.7 millones.  Colectivamente, somos ahora la misma cantidad que la población de la cuidad de Nueva York.  

Eso quizás pasó desapercibido, pero, ese hecho representa una aberración.  En ningún país ocurre ese fenómeno bajo condiciones normales.  Por lo tanto, la pregunta obligada seria, ¿Por qué hay más puertorriqueños afuera de Puerto Rico?  Yo creo que esa seria un tema más urgente para discutir que el que decidió el organizador sobre la salud de los puertorriqueños.

Como colonia de Estados Unidos (EEUU) por 115 años este 25 de julio de 2013,  Puerto Rico siempre se ha administrado para el beneficio del gobierno de EEUU.  Por eso es que no hay buenos trabajos en Puerto Rico para los puertorriqueños.  Los puertorriqueños estamos condenados a abandonar nuestra isla para buscar las oportunidades que no existen en nuestra patria.  Así es exactamente como se supone que funcione una colonia.  Una colonia es para la explotación del imperio.  Por eso fue que Pedro Albizu Campos dijo que “Los Americanos solo le interesan la jaula y no a los pájaros.”  ¡Para lograr eso, EEUU tendrá que persuadir al resto de nosotros a abandonar nuestra isla!

Es obvio para los que estudiamos la historia de Puerto Rico, que los puertorriqueños que administran la isla lo hacen para los intereses del gobierno de EEUU.  Si administrarían la isla para los residentes de Puerto Rico, no tendríamos que abandonar a nuestra preciosa patria para buscar un buen empleo en otra, o ingresar en las fuerzas  armadas de EEUU como un intento desesperado para salir de nuestro caos económico.  ¿Sabia usted que en Puerto Rico es donde se reclutan la mayor cantidad de gentes para las fuerzas armada de EEUU?  ¿Usted cree que eso se debe a que los puertorriqueños somos más patrióticos a los Estados Unidos de America que sus mismos ciudadanos de los 50 estados?

Si después de 115 años EEUU no ha descolonizado a Puerto Rico, debe ser obvio que no tiene ninguna intención de hacerlo.  Como prueba adicionar esta la negativa de EEUU de excarcelar a Oscar López Rivera a pesar de una grande presión internacional.  Para los que todavía podrían tener una duda, también esta el hecho de que el Presidente Obama es abogado y fue otorgado el premio Nobel de la Paz.  Él tiene que saber que EEUU comete un crimen internacional al mantener a Puerto Rico como su colonia.  Pero el gobierno de EEUU ha decidido violar la ley internacional (Resolución 1514 XV de 1960) a pesar de 32 resoluciones de la ONU pidiéndole la descolonización de Puerto Rico).

Legalmente y moralmente, tenemos la fuerza para hacer valer que se cumpla esta ley.

Por eso es que todos los que creemos que el colonialismo es un crimen en contra de la humanidad tenemos que protestar pacíficamente 2 veces al año hasta lograr la descolonización de Puerto Rico.  El hecho indiscutible es que los que practican o aceptan el colonialismo no creen en la justicia para todos.

On my recent visit to New York City for our protest at the United Nations (UN), I was not able to attend the Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday June 9^th 2013.  My sister, however, recorded the Fox News’ television broadcast of it, so that I could see it.  I’m so glad she did!

What struck me most from the hour of it that I was able to tolerate was the sense Fox gave that everything is fine and dandy in Puerto Rico.  Nothing could be father from the truth!

The only Puerto Rican co-hosting the broadcast mentioned that there are 4.2 million Puerto Ricans living outside of Puerto Rico (PR) while a lesser amount, 3.7 million Puerto Ricans have remained on our island.  Collectively, we are now equal to the population of the city of New York. 

Although that probably went unnoticed, that fact constitutes an aberration.  In no country, under normal conditions, would that happen.  So the logical question is, why are more Puerto Ricans, living outside of Puerto Rico?  I believe that that is a much more serious issue for the theme of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade than the one the organizer selected about the health problems of Puerto Ricans.

As a colony of the United States (US) for 115 years on this July 25^th, 2013, Puerto Rico has always been administered for the benefit of the government of the US. This is why there are no good jobs for Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico.  Puerto Ricans are condemned to leave their island in search of opportunities that they can not find in Puerto Rico.  That is exactly how a colony is supposed to function.  A colony is for the exploitation of the empire.  This is why Pedro Albizu Campos said that the “Americans were only interested in the cage, and not the birds”.  To accomplish that, the US needs to further encourage the rest of us to abandon our beautiful homeland!

It is obvious to those of us who study Puerto Rican history to understand that the Puerto Ricans who run Puerto Rico do so for the benefit of the US government.  If they were to govern for the Puerto Ricans who live on the island, Puerto Ricans would not need to abandon our beautiful island for decent employment, or join the armed forces of the US as a desperate way out of our economic chaos.  Did you know that the US armed forces recruit more people in PR than from any of the 50 states of the Union?  Do you think that is because Puerto Ricans are more patriotic to the United States of America than the citizens her 50 states?

This is why those of us who regard colonialism as an international crime against humanity must protest peacefully 2 times a year until Puerto Rico is decolonized.  The first one will be in Puerto Rico on the Abolition of Slavery Day, and the second one on the day the UN celebrates its annual hearing on Puerto Rico decolonization (usually on the Monday after Fathers’ Day).

If after 115 years the US government has not decolonized PR, it ought to obvious to everyone that it has no intentions of ever doing so.  As additional evidence, I offer the fact that the US’ refuses to free Oscar Lopez Rivera despite huge international pressure.  For those of you, who may still have a doubt, think about the fact that President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and is also a lawyer by profession.  He certainly knows that the US commits an international crime by not decolonizing Puerto Rico.  Not only does he continue with business as usual, but he also maintains incarcerated Oscar López Rivera despite the huge domestic and international outcry to liberate him.  How revealing is that?

Legally, the decolonization of Puerto Rico is undeniable via United Nations Resolution 1514 (XV) of 1960 declaring colonialism a crime.  Now we must make good on that resolution by providing the political pressure necessary to get the US to do what we all should know she does not want to do.  But the fact of the matter is that those who practice or accept colonialism don’t believe in justice for all.

Obviamente, el gobierno de Estados Unidos se beneficia enormemente de esta relación colonial que tiene con Puerto Rico.  Y también es obvio después de 114 años de disfrutar de su colonia, la que Estados Unidos unilateralmente estableció, que no tiene intenciones algunas de liberarla.  Por tal razón,  el plan para descolonizar a Puerto Rico tiene que ir acompañado de  unas protestas pacifica bien planificadas para lograr poner la presión necesaria para alcanzar nuestro objetivo.

Después de 114 años de coloniaje norteamericano para Puerto Rico, hay que protestar pacíficamente sobre este crimen en contra de la humanidad, como lo ha declarado la Organización de Naciones Unidas en 1960.  ¡Lo importante de destacar de todo esto es que, los que practican o aceptan el colonialismo no creen en la justicia para todos!

Oscar has been incarcerated by the United States for 32 years for his struggle to decolonize Puerto Rico. The United Nations has issued 32 resolutions asking that the United States of America immediately decolonize Puerto Rico since it declared colonialism a crime against humanity in 1960.  The United States has ignored these 32 resolutions.  Those of us who believe that colonialism as well as slavery are crimes against humanity must work together to decolonize Puerto Rico.

Join 2 peaceful protests a year until it is accomplished.  The first one will be in Puerto Rico on the Abolition of Slavery Day in March 2014, and the second one will be in New York City on the day that the United Nations holds its annual hearing to discuss Puerto Rico’s colonial situation. 

We must protest peacefully if we do not want to be accomplices to this crime.   Moreover, we must protest peacefully because those who practice or accept colonialism don’t believe in justice for all.

What is colonialism doing to Puerto Rico?

Much is said about how much money the United States’ Government spends on Puerto Rico.  This is all propaganda designed to maintain the colonial relationship that the United States unilaterally established with Puerto Rico.  The United States is smart enough to get out of a losing deal if that were the case.

The fact of the matter is that, the government of the United States gets far more benefits from this relationship than it is willing to admit to the public.

• A captive market for its goods and services

• Control of an island in the Caribbean

• Use of Puerto Rico’s resources for the empire

• Because of the above, Puerto Ricans are forced to leave the island for opportunities (presently, more Puerto Ricans off the island than on)

• Because the above, Puerto Rico provides more soldiers for the US Armed Forces than any other state of the Union.

• Etc. (you get the picture)

Colonies are designed for the exploitation of the empire.  This is why we need to work together to protest for the decolonization of Puerto Rico and the liberation of Oscar Lopez Rivera. ¿Que dice Estados Unidos que es su razón por no querer descolonizar a Puerto Rico? / What does the United States say is her reason for not wanting to decolonize Puerto Rico?

El gobierno de Estados Unidos (EEUU) dice que tiene el derecho legal de gobernar a Puerto Rico (PR) porque le ganó la guerra a España dónde Puerto Rico se le cedió a EEUU.

Además, EEUU también alega que la descolonización de PR es un asunto domestico que solo le concierne a Puerto Rico y a Estados Unidos.

Ambos argumentos están erróneos.

Desde 1960, la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) declaró que el colonialismo es un crimen en contra de la humanidad (Resolución 1514 XV).  Así que, el gobierno de Estados Unidos comete un crimen internacional al mantener a PR en un estado colonial.  Y para hacerlo aun peor, EEUU ha sido un criminal habitual.  EEUU ha ignorado 32 resoluciones de la ONU pidiéndole que inmediatamente descolonice a Puerto Rico.

Estas resoluciones tiene el respaldo de sobre el 95% de los países que componen la ONU.  ¿Dónde esta el respecto del gobierno de Estados Unidos a la democracia?  ¿Qué interesante que Oscar López Rivera tiene también 32 años encarcelado por luchar para liberar su país?  ¡Es irónico que es Oscar que este en prisión por seguir la ley internacional que le permite usar todos los medios necesarios para liberar a su país, cuando es el gobierno de EEUU que comete el crimen!  Oscar es el prisionero político con más tiempo encarcelado en el mundo.  Eso nos debe decir mucho sobre, ¿Cuanto interés tiene EEUU para realmente descolonizar a Puerto Rico?

Su segundo argumento es ridículo.  Aunque uno no fuese abogado, todos conocemos sobre lo que se llama, un “conflicto de intereses”.  Por haber sido el gobierno de Estado Unido que decidió unilateralmente someter a Puerto Rico al coloniaje, eso lo descalifica para manejar su descolonización por tener un interés en este asunto que impediría su objetividad. El hecho que Oscar sea el prisionero político con más tiempo encarcelado es el mejor ejemplo de eso.

Por tal razón, tenemos que trabajar juntos para descolonizar a Puerto Rico y excarcelar a Oscar López Rivera.  Ya tenemos la ley a nuestro favor.  ¡Ahora, tenemos que hacer que se cumpla la ley!

Ayuda a planificar y participar en 2 protestas pacifica anualmente.  La primera seria en Puerto Rico en marzo.  La segunda seria en la cuidad de Nueva York.  ¡Las protestas son importantes porque, aquellos que practican el coloniaje o la esclavitud no creen en la justicia para todos!

The United States’ (US) government says that it has the lawful right to govern Puerto Rico (PR) by virtue of it winning the Spanish American War against Spain and having Puerto Rico ceded to the US.

Moreover, The US claims that Puerto Rico’s political status is a domestic issue that only concerns the US and PR.

Both these arguments are wrong.

The first argument has no legal standing under international law.  The United Nations declared that colonialism is a crime against humanity (Resolution 1514 XV) in 1960.  Therefore, the US is committing a crime under international law by maintaining Puerto Rico as her colony.  To make matters worse, the United States government has been a repeated offender by ignoring 32 UN resolutions asking it to immediately decolonize Puerto Rico. 

It is important to note that these resolutions have the support of over 95% of the countries that make up the UN.  Where is the respect for democracy of the government of the United States?  Isn’t it ironic that 32 years is also how many years Oscar López Rivera has been in prison for wanting his country free of colonialism?  It is Oscar who is following the law (Resolution 1514 XV) which includes using all means necessary to decolonize his country.  He is presently the longest held political prisoner in the world!

The second argument is ridiculous!  Even if you are not a lawyer, you are aware of what is known as “having a conflict of interest”.  Since it was the United States that unilaterally decided to colonize Puerto Rico, that disqualifies her from managing the decolonization of Puerto Rico for having an interest in this matter which would prohibit her from being unbiased.  The fact that Oscar is the longest held political prisoner is the best proof of that (but certainly not the only)!

This is why, we must all work together to peacefully protest twice a year for the decolonization of Puerto Rico until we accomplish it.  Please help us plan one in Puerto Rico in March, and the other in New York City.  We have the law behind us, but now we must protest until it is enforced!  We must protest because those who practice colonialism or slavery don’t believe in justice for all.
