International Day of African People and their Descendants

United Nations, New York – 31 August 2025

Today, 31st of August, we celebrate the International Day of African People and their Descendants— a day that uplifts the spirit, heritage, and enduring strength of Africans and their descendants across the world.

I, James Finies, stand as both a son of Africa and an Indigenous Caribbean. My lineage tells a story of survival against centuries of oppression: my grandfather's ancestors,  proud Black men taken from Africa; my grandmother and her ancestors, an Indigenous Caribbean woman whose people were stolen from Bonaire to Hispaniola by Spanish colonizers. On my father’s side, my family bore the cruel weight of mixed European bloodlines, African descendants, and Indigenous survivors — all bound together by suffering under the brutality of colonial rule.

Our African ancestors were kidnapped, brought to Bonaire, and forced into the salt mines where many lost their eyesight and their lives at an early age. This truth was hidden from us; in school we were taught not about our own heroes or our island’s history, but about Dutch rivers,  Dutch victories and murderers of our ancestors as heroes.

Even today, while many Caribbean nations celebrate Emancipation, we in Bonaire remain under colonial domination and are denied justice and to Right of Self-Determination. Our laws are still dictated and made in The Hague — the very city that hosts the International Court of Justice and claims to defend human rights. What hypocrisy.

To be of African descent is to embody survival, strength, and unbroken dignity. But it is also to continue the struggle — for recognition, for justice, and for true freedom. On this day, we honor the memory of our ancestors by carrying forward their fight and ensuring that their suffering was not in vain.

We celebrate not only who we are, but to continue to fight for human rights to freedom and justice, we are determined to secure for generations to come.

Marcha Puerto Rico Libre 2025

Hoy, domingo 31 de agosto de 2025, un gran número de boricuas marcharon desde el Capitolio hasta la Corte Imperial de Estados Unidos (EEUU) en Puerto Rico para demandar al imperio que cumpla con 43 resoluciones de la Organización de Naciones Unidas exigiendo la devolución inmediata de la soberanía de Puerto Rico a los puertorriqueños. Es pertinente destacar que durante 127 años de ser una colonia estadounidense, 6 millones de puertorriqueños han abandonado su territorio nacional (gentrificación), y la mitad de los 3 millones de personas en Puerto Rico viven en la pobreza. 

Es igualmente importante mencionar, ya que la mitad de los puertorriqueños creen que sería posible lograr la igualdad política convirtiendo a Puerto Rico en el estado 51 de la Unión, que casi 40 millones de americanos viven en la pobreza también, y 201 millones más viven de cheque a cheque, mientras que 9 de los 10 hombres más ricos del mundo son americanos también. Por lo tanto, es una mentira que EEUU es una democracia, y menos "el campeón de la democracia". 

El verdadero campeón de la democracia es la República Popular China. China ya erradicó la pobreza a pesar de tener 4 veces más población que EEUU, y tener 11 trillones menos en producto interno bruto que EEUU. Hoy, la mitad inferior de los chinos viven dos veces mejor que la mitad inferior de los americanos. 

Y mientras Puerto Rico continúa colonizada, EEUU dice engañosamente que apoya el derecho inalienable de Taiwán a su autodeterminación e independencia, solo para tener un pretexto para empezar una guerra con China.

Don Heribero Marin Torres dijo en nuestro video que todo el mundo debería estar en esa marcha. Para que eso suceda, nos tendríamos que preguntar lo mismo que don Pedro Albizu Campos le preguntó a él la primera vez que se conocieron. "¿Cómo está ese corazón?" Si el bienestar de Puerto Rico estaría en el corazón de cada boricua, los 9 millones de puertorriqueños mundialmente estarían haciendo resistencia permanente para que EEUU cumpla con la ley internacional.

No longer will nations have to pay the US to colonize them. The People's Republic of China, on the contrary, uses yuan to promote real democracy everywhere. 

At home, China has already eradicated poverty, despite having 4 times the US' population, and having 11 trillion dollars less in Gross Domestic Product than the US. Today, the bottom half of Chinese live 2 times better than the bottom half of Americans. That is why only 35% of Americans are satisfied with their multi-party so-called democratic political system, while over 90% of Chinese are satisfied with their one party communist political system!

The United States (US) uses monopoly to ensure its "America First" win-lose relationships with the rest of the world. China is understandably withholding its rare earth in order to stop US imperialism. 85% of the world wants democracy, which is why the world regards the US as the biggest threat to peace. Even US citizens are exploited, because of US imperialism.

Los 9 millones de boricuas mundialmente tenemos la obligación de defender nuestro derecho inalienable a la autodeterminación e independencia, ya que el supuesto "campeón de la democracia" no lo hará. 

Estados Unidos ha ignorado 43 resoluciones de la Organización de Naciones Unidas exigiendo la devolución inmediata de la soberanía de Puerto Rico a los puertorriqueños. Mientras tanto, 6 millones de boricuas han abandonado su territorio nacional (gentrificación), y casi la mitad de los 3 millones de personas en Puerto Rico viven en la pobreza.

Para la mitad de los hermanos boricuas que quieren la igualdad convirtiendo a Puerto Rico en el estado 51 de la Unión, es importante destacar que casi 40 millones de Americanos viven en la pobreza también, y otros 201 millones más viven de cheque a cheque, mientras 9 de los 10 hombres más ricos del mundo son americanos también. ¿Por qué reabrir bases militares en PR?

Algunos alegan que la razón por la cual se deberían reabrir las bases militares en Puerto Rico es para proteger la soberanía de Estados Unidos (EEUU) de la amenaza que representa hoy la República Popular de China y la Federación Rusa. Al contrario, es EEUU el que amenaza la soberanía del 85% de las naciones del mundo. ¡Tan es así, que el mundo considera a EEUU como la amenaza más grande a la paz! Puerto Rico es un gran  ejemplo.

EEUU le robó la soberanía de Puerto Rico hace 127 años. EEUU ha ignorado consistentemente 43 resoluciones de la Organización de Naciones Unidas exigiendo la devolución inmediata de la soberanía de Puerto Rico a los puertorriqueños. Mientras tanto, 6 millones de puertorriqueños han abandonado su territorio nacional (gentrificación), y casi la mitad de los 3 millones de personas en Puerto Rico viven en la pobreza. Por esa pobreza es que EEUU logra reclutar más personas para su ejército en Puerto Rico, que en cualquiera de los 50 estados de la Unión. 

"Las Madres contra la Guerra nos oponemos a la reactivación de bases militares en Puerto Rico. Ante las intenciones manifestadas por la gobernadora Jenniffer Gonzalez y el secretario del Departamento de Seguridad Pública, Arturo Garffer Croly, de reactivar las antiguas bases militares en Puerto Rico nos oponemos por múltiples razones.  Puerto Rico tiene alrededor de 77,800 cuerdas actualmente ocupadas por instalaciones militares: la base Buchanan, el Fuerte Allen, la Base Aérea Muñiz y el Campamento Santiago. También ocupan parte de la base Ramey y la base Roosevelt Roads. NUNCA han pagado ni un centavo por ocupar nuestra tierra, nuestro aire, nuestro mar .A modo de ejemplo, España recibe un millón y pico de euros anualmente por la base militar estadounidense de Rota.

Adicionalmente, muchas de las bases están contaminadas con basura tóxica, desechos de todo el engranaje de municiones y bélicos.  Nunca limpiaron responsablemente la basura tóxica que dejaron en sus prácticas militares en Vieques y Culebra. Vieques tiene un 30% más de incidencia de cáncer que la Isla Grande.  

Más de 200,000 puertorriqueños han participado en guerras en las que ha estado Estados Unidos, muriendo más de 2,000 boricuas. Puerto Rico vive una alta incidencia de violencia. La milicia enseña a matar.. No necesitamos más bases militares. Necesitamos educación salubrista en modos de convivencia pacífica. 

Desde las bases militares de Estados Unidos en Puerto Rico, salieron a invadir a Guatemala en 1954, a la República Dominicana en 1965, a Granada en 1983 y a Panamá en  1989. No queremos ser cómplices de más invasiones a países hermanos latinoamericanos, como Venezuela.  Puerto Rico no puede ni debe ser blanco de ataques por complicidad. Porque la maternidad es vida y la guerra es muerte, luchamos por la paz."

It is a matter of the 9 million Puerto Ricans worldwide insisting that their inalienable right to self-determination and independence be respected by engaging in permanent resistance to force the US to comply with international law.

Por eso es que EEUU logra reclutar más personas para su ejército en Puerto Rico, que en cualquiera de los 50 estados de la Unión. 

En vez de beber café como si el colonialismo se debería tolerar para siempre, los 9 millones de puertorriqueños mundialmente deberíamos hacer resistencias permanentes para obligar a EEUU a cumplir con la ley internacional.

If neoliberalism were great for a democracy, why did United States (US) workers only get a 13.7% wage increase, when worker productivity rose by almost 60%?

If neoliberalism were great for a democracy, why are almost 40 million Americans today living in poverty, and another 201 million more living from paycheck to paycheck, while 9 of the 10 richest men in the world are Americans too? Today, the bottom half of Chinese are living 2 times better than the bottom half of Americans! No wonder only 35% of Americans are satisfied with their so-called multi-party "democracy".

If neoliberalism were great for a democracy, why does the US consistently refuse to comply with 43 UN's resolutions demanding the immediate return of Puerto Rico's sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans? In the meantime, 6 million Puerto Ricans have abandoned their national territory (gentrification), and almost half of the 3 million people in Puerto Rico live in poverty too. And yet, the US deceptively claims to support Taiwan's right to self-determination and independence in order to try to justify a war against the People's Republic of China.

And, If neoliberalism were great for a democracy, why is the US unconditionally supporting today the genocide against the indigenous people of Palestine against international law?

In order for democracy to exist, the government must be strong enought to control its oligarchs, like China has done. That is the only way to trickle the money up to the 97% of Americans. By doing that, China eradicated poverty despite having 4 times the US' population, and having 11 trillion dollars less in Gross Domestic Product than the US. That is why over 90% of Chinese today are satisfied with their one party communist political system.  

When President Rooselvelt, via his "New Deal", did the very same things that the video suggests to democratize America, US oligarchs tried to overthrow his government. US Major General Smedley Butler, the author of the 1935 book WAR IS A RACKET, alerted the US government of the plot. Although the coup never happened, oligarchs continued tirelessly working to convert the US into today's plutocracy.

Americans have more reason to distrust their own government than China. For example, almost 40 million Americans today live in poverty, and another 201 million more live from paycheck to paycheck, while 9 of the 10 richest men in the world are also Americans. Only 35% of Americans are satisfied with their so-called "democracy" with more than one political party.

Conversely, China has already eradicated poverty, despite having 4 times the US' population, and having 11 trillion dollars less in Gross Domestic Product than the US. Today, the bottom half of Chinese live two times better than the bottom half of Americans. No wonder over 90% of Chinese are satisfied with their one political party communist system!

This is important, because the US Empire has had the world enslaved since World War II. 85% of the world is now finally fighting back by weakening the US' financial ability to wage war against it.

Marcha Independencia PR este domingo

Diversas organizaciones políticas y comunitarias convocaron a la ciudadanía a participar en la Marcha por la Independencia de Puerto Rico, que se celebrará el domingo 31 de agosto de 2025. La manifestación saldrá a las 10:00 de la mañana desde el lado sur del Capitolio y recorrerá las calles del Viejo San Juan hasta la Corte Federal.

Los organizadores explicaron que la actividad busca visibilizar el reclamo por la descolonización y la soberanía de Puerto Rico. Señalaron que, tras 127 años de relación colonial con Estados Unidos, la isla sigue enfrentando desigualdades sociales y económicas que, a su juicio, son consecuencia directa del coloniaje.

La marcha servirá además para conmemorar dos efemérides que marcaron la historia reciente del movimiento independentista: los 40 años de los arrestos de miembros de los Macheteros en 1985 y los 20 años del asesinato de Filiberto Ojeda Ríos en 2005.

Los portavoces recordaron también la Revolución de Jayuya de 1950 y las figuras de Pedro Albizu Campos, Blanca Canales y Heriberto Marín, a quienes destacaron como ejemplos de lucha por la libertad del país.

“Esta marcha no se limita a las conmemoraciones; es un llamado a que la independencia y el coloniaje se conviertan en un tema central de la discusión pública en Puerto Rico”, indicaron las organizaciones en su declaración.

Hoy, casi 40 millones de americanos viven en la pobreza, y 201 millones más viven de cheque a cheque, mientras que 9 de los 10 hombres más ricos del mundo son americanos también. 

Hoy, Estados Unidos (EEUU) continúa consistentemente ignorando 43 resoluciones de la Organización de Naciones Unidas exigiendo la devolución inmediata de la soberanía de Puerto Rico a los puertorriqueños. Mientras tanto, 6 millones de puertorriqueños han abandonado su territorio nacional (gentrificación), y casi la mitad de los 3 millones de personas en Puerto Rico viven en la pobreza. 

Y, hoy EEUU apoya incondicionalmente el genocidio en contra de la gente indigena de Palestina en contra de la ley internacional.

El Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dijo, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" que es exactamente el tema de este video. Por lo tanto, es totalmente imposible que EEUU sea, como se proclama, "el campeón de la democracia".
