A real democracy is supposed to represent 100% of its citizens. Operation Northwoods, however, was intended to only benefit US oligarchs at the expense of the rest of the 99% of its citizens.
US Major General Smedley Butler realized that, and wrote a book about it in 1935 called WAR IS A RACKET.
Today, while 9 of the 10 richest men in the world are Americans, almost 40 million Americans live in poverty, and another 201 million more live from paycheck to paycheck. Only 35% of Americans are satisfied with their government. The US, therefore, is instead an empire!
That is why the US has consistently refused to comply with 43 United Nations' resolutions demanding the immediate return of Puerto Rico's sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. In the meantime, 6 million Puerto Ricans have abandoned their national territory (gentrification), and almost half of the 3 million people in Puerto Rico live in poverty too!
The People's Republic of China, a nation that the US calls authoritarian, has erradicated poverty despite having 4 times the US' population, and having 11 trilion dollars less Gross Domestic Product than the US. Over 90% of Chinese are satisfied with their communist part, because it prevents oligarchs from hijacking their government.
Empires hate democracy!
