Día de Desempleo en PR / PR Unemployment Day

Esto fue parte de una serie de protestas que se están realizando dentro y fuera de Puerto Rico desde que el gobierno de Estados Unidos ha hecho perfectamente claro que somos su colonia.  Con el nombramiento de los miembros de la Junta de Control Fiscal por el Presidente Obama sin el consentimiento de los puertorriqueños, esto ha causado que los puertorriqueños salgan a la calle a un nivel más alto.  Muchos se preguntan, ¿Por qué votar si la Junta estará por encima del gobierno de Puerto Rico?

En vez del gobierno de Estados Unidos descolonizar a Puerto Rico conforme a las 35 resoluciones de la Organización de Naciones Unidas, lo que decidió hacer es instalar una junta para explotar al Pueblo de Puerto Rico aún más de lo que ha hecho durante los últimos 118 años.

El piquete fue exitoso en cerrar las operaciones de Walmart.  Walmart se escogió porque simboliza al sector que el gobierno de Estados Unidos representa.  Walmart simboliza las ganancias gigantescas del 1 % de los ciudadanos estadounidenses, mientras el resto de la nación se empobrece cada día más.    

Los protestantes tienen que ser más cuidadoso de no dar la impresión de provocar la violencia.  Cuando la Fuerza de Choque apareció para ubicarse en la entrada de Walmart al finalizar la protesta, muchos de los protestantes se ubicaron muy peligrosamente cerca de ellos.  El gobierno no necesita mucha provocación para decidir aplastar a los manifestantes indefensos.  ¡De hecho, el gobierno busca cualquier excusa para hacerlo!   

Para lograr que el público este al lado de los manifestantes, Martin Luther King los enseñaban a no provocar ni usar la violencia.  De esa manera, si la policía usaba la violencia en contra de ellos por ejercer su derecho a protestar pacificante, la policía seria la mala en la opinión del público.  Un libro bueno que habla sobre esta estrategia es Stride Toward Freedom por Martin Luther King Jr.  Yo dejaré una copia en el Campamento Contra La Junta en la Calle Chardón de Hato Rey.

La líder que daba instrucciones les pidió varias veces a los manifestantes que continuasen la protesta en la calle, pero muchos se quedaron peligrosamente cerca de la Fuerza de Choque.  Los manifestantes tienen que entrenarse para que sigan las instrucciones del líder si queremos que las protestas futuras continúen pacíficamente.  No tenemos las armas para ganar una revolución armada, pero podemos ganarla con la razón.

Los puertorriqueños estamos reconociendo que el gobierno de Estados Unidos nunca nos va a descolonizar, y que las elecciones solo se usan para dar la impresión que vivimos en una democracia.  ¡Más y más de nosotros nos estamos dando cuenta que tenemos que votar con nuestros pies, porque los que nos quieren colonizar para siempre no creen en la JUSTICIA PARA TODOS!

This was part of a string of protests that has incremented in and out of Puerto Rico, since the United States (US) government has made it perfectly clear that Puerto Rico is its colony.  With President Obama having named the members of the Puerto Rico Fiscal Control Board against the will of the Puerto Rican People, this has mobilized them to a greater extent to vote with their feet instead of the ballot box.  Many Puerto Ricans are asking themselves why they should vote, if the board will be above the government of Puerto Rico.

Instead of the United States government decolonizing Puerto Rico, in accordance with the 35 United Nations’ resolutions to do so, it has instead decided to set up this board so it could continue to exploit Puerto Rico even more than it has for the past 118 years. 

The picket was a success in making Walmart close for the day.  Walmart was chosen, because it symbolizes whom the United States government really represents.  Walmart symbolizes the huge profits for the 1% of the citizens of the United States, while the rest of the country becomes poorer every day.

The protesters need to be very careful to never give the impression of provoking violence.  When the Police Riot Squad showed up to position themselves at the entrance of Walmart at the end of the demonstration, many protesters got dangerously close to them.  The government doesn’t need too much provocation to physically crush unarmed protesters.  In fact, the government is looking for any excuse to do so!

To get the public on the protesters’ side, Martin Luther King taught his protesters to refrain from any violence or provocation.  That way, should the police use violence against them for exercising their lawful right to peacefully protest, the police would be the bad guys in the public’s view.  A good book about this strategy is STRIDE TOWARD FREEDOM by Martin Luther King Jr.  I will make a copy available at the Camp against the Board at Chardon Street in Hato Rey.  

The leader giving instructions asked the protesters repeatedly to resume their protest in the street, while reminding them that they had been successful in closing down Walmart.  Still many remained in very close proximity to the Riot Squad.  The protesters need to be trained to follow the leader's instructions, if we expect to continue to have peaceful protests in the future.  We don’t have the weapons to win an armed revolution, but we can win by using reason.   

Puerto Ricans are finally realizing that the US government will never decolonize us, and that the elections in Puerto Rico are only designed to give the impression that we live in a democracy.  More and more of us are understanding that we must vote with our feet, because those who want to colonize us forever, don’t believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL!
