Self-determination Colloquium



Invitation

In conjunction with the 25th March, 2020 Commemoration of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade at the United Nations  (U.N.) Headquarters New York,

The organization, Nos Kier Boneiru Bek ( We Want Bonaire Back)   in Partnership  with Caribbean Progressive Alliance, under the auspices of the Conference of NGO’s with consultative status at UN ECOSOC (CoNGO) and the Decolonization Alliance, uniting the Caribbean, South – America and Pacific dependencies-territories, cordially invite you to a Colloquium –  “Self-Determination and Reparations - The Future of the Non-Independent Caribbean, South America & Pacific”-- In recognition that the post-emancipation period leading to the full measure of self-government for many former territories of the regions has not been made universal.  


We are inviting to the Colloquium political and civil society leaders, diplomats, professionals and specialists of various backgrounds with the purpose and focus on the procedures and process for genuine self-determination and decolonization of the countries and territories of the non-independent Caribbean, South American and Pacific region, including Aruba, Curacao and Saint Maarten, administered by the Netherlands; the “public entities of Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius which were unilaterally annexed by the Netherlands; the relevant countries and territories administered by Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and Colombia.

Territories participating: Guiana- Cayenne, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands US, Bermuda, Sint Eustatius, Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, San Andres, Old Providencia, Santa Catalina.

Our main objective for this colloquium is to raise awareness of the international community and the U.N. of the urgent, unfinished process of decolonization in the Caribbean, South American and Pacific region. The event is also being convened to add our voices in support of the renewal by the U.N. General Assembly of the International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism in order to complete the implementation of the U.N. Decolonization Declaration. 


We are pleased to invite you to join us and participate on Thursday, March 26th, 2020 from 9:30am to 12:30pm – at Conference Room – 224 East 47street, New York, NY 10017, in this critical discussion. We want to highlight the ongoing continuation of colonialism, and our efforts to unite in our common goal of Reparations, Self-determination and Decolonization of the Caribbean, South American and Pacific dependencies.
