Puerto Ricans have been serving in the United States (US) military since World War I. They can't spread democracy and human rights around the world, because Puerto Rico does not have it for herself! Puerto Rico has been a US colony since 1898, and therefore, can only spread US imperialism, like US Major General Smedley Butler affirmed in his 1935 book, WAR IS A RACKET.
18,000 Puerto Ricans served in this racket during World War I, 65,000 during World War II, 61,000 during the Korean War, 48,000 during the Vietnam War, 10,000 during the Gulf War, and 25,000 during "Operation Enduring Freedom & Iraqi Freedom".
Why do Puerto Rico consistently rank high in terms of per capita military service, when compared to the US states, and other territories? Desperation!
6 million Puerto Ricans have abandoned their national territory, during 127 years of US colonialism in Puerto Rico. Almost half of the 3 million people in Puerto Rico live in poverty. Therefore, a Puerto Rican joining the US military doesn't mean that he is more patriotic than a stateside American, it means that he is more desperate to escape poverty!
The US Empire has maintained that desperation by consistently refusing to comply with 43 United Nations resolutions demanding the immediate return of Puerto Rico's sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. The US Empire allows 40 million Americans to also live in poverty today, and 201 million more to live from paycheck to paycheck, while 9 of the 10 richest men in the world are Americans too. That has nothing to do with being a champion of democracy, as the US claims to be.
If the US insists on its final overextension by fighting a war against Venezuela to colonize her, that will push the Doomsday Clock, which the US has unilaterally pushed to 89 seconds to midnight, even closer. Americans must immediately stop their nation's insanity, before it ignites World War lll in "America's "Backyard".
The US' death wish is not democracy!
