Una patriota en la diáspora / A patriot in the diaspora

Durante mi estadía en la ciudad de Nueva York fui a la Marqueta de El Barrio para ver cómo había cambiado desde mi niñez.  Recuerdo que siempre había una peste insoportable. ¡Ya no!  El espacio se ha reducido para una plaza grande con Wi-Fi gratis debajo del tren elevado en la Avenida Park. 

Conocí una joven puertorriqueña y dueña del negocio SprinkleSplash.  Ella estaba confeccionando un bizcocho hermoso.  Me atrajo su forma artística en que ubicaba cada detalle en el bizcocho que estaba creando.  Nos pusimos a hablar y acordamos hacerle una entrevista sobre su negocio para que los puertorriqueños allá y acá sepan que ella está aquí.  Oprima en siguiente enlace para ver este video:  https://youtu.be/rOENUHKmbsE  

 

 

During my stay in New York City, I went to the Marqueta in El Barrio to see how it has changed since the days when I was a kid.  I remember vividly the intolerable smell.  Not anymore!  The space has been reduced, to make way to a large plaza with free Wi-Fi under the elevated tracks above Park Avenue.

I met a young Puerto Rican woman who is the owner of the business SprinkleSplash.  She was carefully putting together a cake.  I was attracted by the way she artistically put ever detail exactly where she wanted them.  We agree to meet the following week for an interview about her business, so that Puerto Ricans here and there would know about it.  Click on the following link to see this video:  https://youtu.be/rOENUHKmbsE
